2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

To be honest, Nelson can also make a difference in the game the wrong way. TJ pulled him so fast from that Iowa game it wasn't even funny. Out of sync offensively and a liability on defense.

I think part of the reason we see Heise get so many minutes is because TJ knows exactly what he's going to get from him. He's struggling with his shot, but he doesn't take shots he shouldn't. They're almost always corner threes with good space between him and the defender. The rest are off back cuts or offensive rebounds. He is consistent and reliable on the defense end. You just know what you're getting with him and the shots he makes are a bonus.
This^ Heise is just so solid. I fully expect his shot to come around like it did late last year, hopefully sooner than later.

Pleta has looked good I thought he had played more
Agree, Pleta looks like he can play but has missed 2 games and was <10mins the first 4 games so played slightly more his recent games. Seems like he could be the 8th man with Bateman/Nelson battling it out for 7th man

I think the other major thing with Nelson is the book is out that he is probably not going to find anyone for an open look once he gets the ball and starts attacking the rim. He has 1 assist in our 6 games against "real" competition. I was texting with a buddy that's an Iowa fan the other night during the game and when Nelson came in I said "Just so you know, #11 doesn't really like to give up the rock". The first possession he was in, he hoisted up a contested airball jumper.

I do love his aggressiveness and his change of pace style, he would just do himself a lot of favors if he kicked the ball back out once or twice

He will get bashed at some point this year when he goes 0-5 from three and we lose by two points against a Houston, Arizona, KU or BYU.

He'll get bashed if ISU wins one of those.

And JJeff will have two turnovers and 26/8/7 but it will get posted as 14 turnovers and a terrible game from him.

The ISU m bball hyperbole train is in full gear.

People are nuts. They expect the team to play like they did second half at Purdue every minute of every game.

And when they don't, it's because the players don't care, 0 effort, TJ's practices, behind the scenes issues, looks like another blown opportunity at a Big 12 championship and national title because after Vegas they were destined to win it all because Painter praised them the next week.

Also a blind eye to all of the similar not great things that happen to all sorts of really good teams every week.

People bitched when they shot above average FT % against Iowa haha.

Ya. I don’t know why everyone doesn’t just blame the refs like I do. **** those nerds.

With Nelson, in a certain sense, I try to recall how Cujo and Heise each seemed inconsistent during first couple of months after they came aboard.

I don't know if Nelson has the Curtis potential, but I'm not getting too hung on it, partly because he's like 7th in rotation and we aren't super-dependent (every little bit helps, of course).
I think Nelson is actually 8th in minutes per game now, but likely will be ninth as I think Pleta will likely pass him now that he isn't really splitting time with Mulder when Pleta is healthy. While Nelson and Batemon may battle for minutes, they play completely different styles. Nelson is the most different in style from anyone else, which is a good change of pace (think Gilbert without the headband flying off after contact or 3 pt shot), yet I believe Batemon will get more minutes for his combo of defense and 3-pt shooting (believe he is at roughly 40% for the year).
