2025-2026 MBB computer projections thread

Although we don't have an option as close as Omaha, it's good to have two that are reasonable distance for fan travel.

Also, since we should be hoping it's expectation for second weekend, Chicago and Houston are possibilities for regional site.

If ISU could get StL or OKC, then feed into one of those, that'd be cool.
Only problem with Chicago is you probably ate in the Purdue bracket then, and that’s essentially a home game for them.

Definite possibility. Or perhaps Michigan - not as much "home court" as Purdue, but similar assessment applies.

Even so, I'd take Chicago w/ Big Ten opponent "risk" vs. placement in DC. We seem to get shipped East a LOT even with top-4 seeding.

Just for fun...

BUFFALO = #1 Michigan | #10 Michigan St.

GREENVILLE, SC = #2 Duke | #7 Louisville

OKLAHOMA CITY = #5 Houston | #9 Iowa St.

PHILADELPHIA = #8 Connecticut | #15 Kansas

PORTLAND, OR = #12 Gonzaga | #16 Illinois

SAN DIEGO = #6 Arizona | #14 BYU

ST. LOUIS = #3 Purdue | #4 Vanderbilt

TAMPA = #11 Alabama | #13 Tennessee

I would assume the fanbase would most want St. Louis for a first-weekend location. Gonna need to get ahead of at least Vanderbilt and probably Purdue to make that goal happen. Programs like Illinois and Kansas are also going to be competition for it if you don't stay ahead of them. Big game coming!
I wouldn't mind OKC

With MSU looking tough, it's nice to know that there is no regional in Ann Arbor this year.

I would take this in a heartbeat.

Plus, I really like his site as you bounce between different tabs easily.
. Yeah, I think we’d all take that prediction. Win at Kansas, at Baylor, at TCU, at OSU…. Finish with 3 losses. That’s in the running for best ISU regular season of all time.

Still #4 in KenPom, but up to #9 offense and #6 defense, making us and Duke the only teams in the Top 10 for both

That was our third straight 99 game score on Torvik, which is impressive. As is the 164 raw offensive efficiency (143 adjusted is off the charts too)

Both Jefferson and Kelderman had 200+ Offensive Ratings scores per Torvik in that game, which is basically perfect.

I like to think of this thread as more highbrow than most and thus containing less commentary. But what’s crazy is—IMHO—the defense could still be better, and we know if nothing else Otz & Co. can coach defense. So to pair that with potentially his best offense since becoming HC, which practically no one saw coming?? It’s extremely early, and guys are already hurt, but I’m just enjoying the ride

It hasn't mattered because the offense has been so good and the competition hasn't been supper high end, but we've missed Lipsey on the defensive end.

It will be interesting to see how we integrate Lipsey on the offensive end once he comes back, because it has been so good since he's been out. Part of it is coincidence/timing, but part is that other guys have had to step up on offensive in has absence and have been playing great. During the first five games Lipsey's usage was way up from what it had been previously in his career.

I'm really confused how it can project us at 19-4 the rest of the way, including 14-4 in the Big 12. That means zero non-conference losses.

Yet it projects a 38% chance of beating Purdue. What am I missing?

edit: just noticed Dahlia posted basically the same question
ISU loses the game to Purdue, but then Purdue is discovered to have committed recruiting violations with the transfer of Oscar Cluff, so they have to forfeit the win against the Cyclones.
