2024-2025 Recruiting Thread

Sports Illustrated (granted…not sure how much stock I put in that publication) recently put out HS rankings. For them, Castillo is 6th and Pearson is 9th, both at 120. Castillo did wrestle 126 at Super 32 though, right?

Give me the guys that seek out the challenges, not avoid them. If they’re both at the same weight it will only make them both better.
Love the mindset, but with both of them being future cyclones I’d rather not have bad blood. Also wouldn’t overlook Knight and want to see Carter on top of the podium once again. Assuming knight goes 126 and Koester goes 132. Riggins isn’t very big if Carter goes 126 I’m assuming he will be up at 132. Mac Crosson will also be in the mix around 132 and Wignall from Ankeny a young stud at 120/126.

Did we have any recruits in town for the game this past weekend?? Woulda been a great atmosphere.
Seems like we haven’t had many recruits in all football season which is a disappointment- it’s been really quiet. Usually IA wrestle makes articles as well on big recruiting weekends and nothing.

Yeah i know Iowa has like 4-6 top level recruits lined up for their next home game, including Mocco's kid.

Good chance that the 30 roster limit has something to do with this as well. We have a few commitments already and we will already have to get rid of some of the guys on the team as it is.

Oklahoma State has 9 kids committed for their class of 2025, so I don’t think that’s it. I also didn’t think that was a definite guideline or requirement yet is it?

This is part of the settlement agreement that still has to be approved by the court . One article I read said that they believe from the wording of the settlement that this will only apply to schools who implement revenue sharing for all athletes. I have not read the settlement so I’m not sure if that is a good take or not. I did not realize the revenue sharing was optional. No timeline for the court’s decision.

If the 30 man roster limit is going to be applpicable to us, it does present a real conundrum given our roster composition. As noted, we've got 43 athletes on the on the rosters. 35 of those are listed with freshamn or sophomore eligibility and we've currently got 3 commitments for HS kids in the class of 2025. Only 6 seniors and 2 juniors on the roster.

So you're talking about at least 40 athletes that you'd currently be planning to have on the roster next year, not counting any further additions which our staff surely is always looking to make. So how do you figure out how to cut 10-12 guys off your roster, and then only have two seniors currently projected to be on the roster next year leaving very little space for your class of 2026 recruiting efforts.

So we'll see how the settlement shakes out and when roster limits go into effect, etc. but there is a lot to think about for coaching staffs around the country. Especialy a program like ISU who traditionally carries a big roster AND is super young.

I will say if the rosters size is capped at 30 but I think saying when the roster size is capped at 30
is better way to state it
with hard cap of 30 you will need some type of rubric or formula on how your roster is set especially dealing with a roster the size of ISU to determine who you keep and who unfortunately won't be rostered
