love to hear that kind of stuffMet him at the Ames Golf event. Nice young man and family. Welcome to Ames!
Went to the practice and it was great. Here are some things I was watching and noticed, but the guys went live maybe 5-10 minutes so hard to draw too much from it.Anyone have the details for the wrestling practice tomorrow and what to expect?
Gannon Gremmel was there holding a 12 pack. KD saw him and told him to come over by the mat. KD took the one out of his hand, took a strong pull, and gave it back.Went to the practice and it was great. 1. Loved watching the gymnastics warmups. The Cubans are especially impressive. Diversent can really fly, similar to Echemendia. Also amazing how athletic the entire team is. Vast majority can do backflips.
2. Casey looked very big. Every bit as big as Chittum imo if not bigger. I’m thinking 65 is in the works down the road. He scrapped with Ortega which is fun to watch.
3. Watched Diversent and Perryman, and Diversent was definitely getting the better of that matchup, but some of the folkstyle funk scrambles were making it hard for him. Will take some time to understand those positions, but very talented. Also, pretty big so will be a big 125.
4. Naak and MJ were wrestling and I thought Naak looked really good. IMO it’s a battle at 84, and not a sure thing with Bockman.
5. Bockman and Carroll started out on each other, but about a minute in they got switched to other partners by the coaches. I was bummed and wanted to see them go. Asked Dresser after wards why they switched and he said it was “too early for that.” It looked like both those guys were ready to go to war, so probably not the right venue for that to play out.
Koester brothers (Bettendorf) were there as well as a CA kid around 144. Can’t remember his name.
I’m really intrigued by your comments about Casey. He’s looked big & on full feed all summer. I’d guess he’s walking around somewhere in the 170s.Went to the practice and it was great. He didn’t look 165 big to me.I’m really intrigued by your comments about Casey. He’s looked big & on full feed all summer. I’d guess he’s walking around somewhere in the 170s.
Did he look lean & in near wrestling shape? If so, might the redshirt year be out the window & he fills the opening at 65 this year?
I wasn't there, but if you didn't recognize him, I'd guess it was CJ Carter, the transfer from Iowa Western. He's a full grown heavyweight. He told me he weighs 237 when I met him last week.Who was the guy drilling with Yonger? He looked pretty fit.
I know last spring/summer Casey was weighing in the upper 160s. Remember, the plan was for him to be our 157 and Paniro 149. Then we got Chittum and lost Paniro so plans changed. A year off focusing on his technique and strength will be great for him.I’m really intrigued by your comments about Casey. He’s looked big & on full feed all summer. It wasn’t Zinkin, it was Toscano 144/150. 2nd at State and beat Roller and Parco during season.I’d love to get TJ he’s a tuff kid.
I’m guessing the Cali kid is Nikade Zinkin. He also has a cousin, Rocklin Zinkin, who is a stud and a 2026 recruit.
