Probably still too many outstanding restraining orders for him to be able to purchase a home in Cedar Falls...
Solid list like the idea of a proven head coach at a lower level and seeing if it will translate. Need to be very creative with the hire. For discussion sake will throw a couple outside the box names at you: Scott Strohmeier, Joe Woodley, Tom Wilson.
Yup good for him. Obviously on the other side, 8 years is a long time, but is the price of doing business these days. They have to lock him up for that long to get him to stay, but wouldn't be surprised to see him fizzle out a bit in years 3, 4, 5, especially now that he has set a new bar at Indiana. If he doesn't get to 10 wins consistently, which he probably won't, do they hang onto him? These B10 and SEC schools aren't going to take home much more than B12 and ACC. They bring in more, but their price of doing business with coaches and players is going to be consistently higher.
I doubt he ever has a year as good as this year. The B1G will not always be down most years like they are this year, IU will eventually play the better teams in the B1G, etc. However, what he can do is create a STRONG PROGRAM out of nothing like Hayden @ Iowa, Snyder @ K-State, Alvarez @ Wisconsin and Campbell is doing now @ ISU. That is what IU is trying to do with this extension IMO. He's a Saban guy (from the early Alabama years), so I am rooting for him!
The interesting thing is how few (if any) Power 4 jobs are open. Usually by this time a lot have been fired. In any other circumstances Riley would have been fired. But I don't think USC will have $90 million.
I suppose you'll have a handful of retirements and a few guys will try and get an NFL job, but pretty stable.
6-28 in 2+ seasons definitely will give a HC a boot.
Although in this case, it's UMess - I don't think this program has ever had any decent season (let alone a winning season) since they move up to FBS
