2024-2025 MBB computer projections thread

Yeah I'm not worried about Saturday.

Last night and even with ASU, we would have a good offensive or defensive possession and then do something stupid on the other end and they would tie it up or we wouldn't extend the lead.

Often too it seems like we get going to fast sometimes and get ourselves in a bad spot then turn it over

Yeah and I get that they need to push the ball as they're not going to 'out-athlete' a lot of teams and repeating but man sometimes it's just like 'hold up, take a moment and find what's there'.

That the tech dude missed the floater in the lane was luck.
Running full speed downhill and shooting a floater like that is actually not that easy. It wasn't necessarily that contested but he wasn't alone in the area when shooting so I'd put the % of him making that probably at around 60%. So 40% of the time he misses that. Caleb Love misses that prayer at the absolute least, 90% of the time.

We got lucky when their good FT shooters went to the line and missed, just like Arizona got lucky with Joshua missing his. But missing FTs down the stretch is far more common than throwing in a 60 foot shot.

We’ll be fine offensively, especially when Milan comes back. But the increased number of unforced or self-inflicted turnovers continues to be an issue. Gotta get that cleaned up against good teams.

I think the guards are so good and so confident, they sometimes assume they can do anything and they get outside their flight envelope a bit. So they get a steal and then push a little too hard and throw it away.

And DJ sometimes gets lazy with the ball after a rebound or a steal. He was better about it at AZ, but still had a couple moments of 'oops'.

Bingo. Talen Horton-Tucker and Hunter Dickinson were born on the same day. Literally the same age down to the day and THT is in 6th year and 3rd contract.

Dickinson might be making a few million a year in NIL (and good for him).

"Wow! So much money for a college player!"

Horton-Tucker's career earnings in the NBA are $35.6 million as a journeyman who often is barely holding onto a roster spot. Yeah, half that is gone to agent and taxes, but so is half Dickinson's money.

NBA and NFL money is always going to crush NCAA money.

Like the NCAA tournament?

Or does the Big Ten no longer invite everybody?
Big 10 only takes 15 teams to the CONFERENCE tournament. As does the ACC, I think.

"The 2025 TIAA Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament will take place March 5-9, followed by the 2025 TIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament from March 12-16. The events will be the first to feature a 15-team field following the additions of Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington this summer."

Funny that Iowa could very well not make the Big 10 tournament, but this also reminds me how much I dislike the giant size of these conferences now. Maybe I'm weird, but I like postseason setups like basketball previously was where it's really a whole new season--every team is eligible, and any team could go on and win it all, regardless of what happened in the regular season.

Yeah, I don't know why these conferences don't include all teams for the tourney.

Totally agree. They've been doing double byes in the B1G for some years now. How hard would it be to just slide that out even further - 4 teams get a double bye, 2 get a single, and the other 12 play for 6 spots against the single byes?

Or even do haves & have nots? Top 10 teams (play on the conf name here) with 4 teams doing play ins - gives middle teams a shot at another decent win. Then the bottom 8 do their own "NIT" tournament for king of the dumpster?

Not even letting 4 teams go and play just kind of sucks. Not very much comradery there..

C'MON RUTGERS AND MINNY!
If you want Iowa to miss their conference tourney, you should be rooting hard for Iowa to lose as many as possible (quite likely) and rooting for the following to win as much as possible.

  • Rutgers
  • Minnesota
  • Northwestern
  • Ohio State
  • Indiana
  • Penn State
  • Nebraska
  • Washington

I am too lazy to research it. Anyone have a quick explanation why they only take 15 teams and not an even 16? Weird.
