Which side are you talking about? Accurately defining terms of the labor dispute? Or the Bonds juicing side (which, come on, man, was obvious to anybody with eyes)?

My comment was more about the short-sighted stupidity of major league owners (and Manfred) than anything else. Read “Lords Of The Realm” by John Helyar sometime - it’s not even up to date with today’s owners, but man - baseball owners are a horrible bunch in general.

I love baseball, but it‘s getting harder and harder with all the stuff MLB has allowed to happen in recent years (pace of play is HORRIBLE, just watch a game from the 70s or even the 90s and compare it to today, it’s like today’s game is stuck in molasses - that shouldn’t be hard to fix if they simply enforce rules already in the book; taking over minor league baseball was dumb; the extra inning rules actually don’t bother me, but there’s better ways to speed up the game; the dominance of analytics and “three true outcomes” is ruining the sport).

After re-reading your post, I think I mis-read your earlier comments. My apologies for my comment, which was snarky and out-of-line. I thought that you were trying to blame the state of baseball (mainly pace of play issues) completely on the owners. Although, I think they are playing a role in it, I think every level (players, managers, front office, owners, commissioner) have all played a part.

Completely agree that the changes that baseball is trying aren't working. I'm curious what rules they should enforce to help the issue with pace of play. I honestly don't know the answers to the issue but would love to hear any suggestions.

I used to love baseball, but I'm starting to lose a lot of it. I've now become a casual fan. I barely watched the any of the world series this year and besides the Field of Dreams game, I don't think I watched a baseball game start to finish this past season.

For one, there are rules on the books which prohibit batters from stepping out of the box between pitches (unless they swung at the previous pitch), and a time limit between pitches that’s supposed to be enforced against pitchers. The penalties are, if the players don’t comply, to call a strike against the batter or a ball against the pitcher. These rules are never enforced, as MLB and the umpires know they’d face a massive amount of blowback if they suddenly started to enforce rules they’ve been ignoring for years.

That‘s just the rules that are already written; I’m sure there are other ideas to speed up the pace of play out there.

And yes, today’s players bear the brunt of the blame for making things so slow. I mean, come on - like I said, watch a game from 20 or 30 years ago, you’ll be amazed at how fast it seems to go. Admittedly, it’s not all stepping out of the box or strolling around the mound - today’s style of play (strikeout or home run, fouling off numerous pitches, working deep into every count, no stolen bases, etc) just isn’t conducive to an enjoyable viewing experience.

Now word is coming out that Jeremy Giambi took his life which is what I was afraid of when you hear someone passes at 47.
