MLB: ***2022 MLB SEASON THREAD***

Ortiz is a media darling and that’s why he’s in. I don’t think the hate should be towards him, it should be towards those who voted for him because he’s a media darling and didn’t vote for others because they aren’t media darlings.

Baseball was on its last breath and it truly was the likes of Sosa, Bonds, McGuire, Clemens, and Schilling that gave it life. If the HOF wants to keep the history of baseball alive, they must be in. You can’t tell the story of baseball without them.

I know he’s a hot button issue for some, but from a performance perspective, why is Schilling not in? 3k strikeouts seems to be a big mark he crossed, post season success, etc. Was he in the mix with some of the steroid allegations? I don’t follow HOF too closely, but Schilling was in my generation.

The HOF doesn’t care about performance. Schilling is an extreme and vocal conservative, so the baseball media will not let him in the Hall of Fame.

8 people were elected for the Hall of Fame this year, only 1 was from the Baseball Writers, 7 were from the veterans.

Im going to guess the veterans committee, which historically has much more respect for the game than the baseball writers, will ensure justice will be done in the next few years. They can’t vote for HOF members until players are ineligible for the Baseball Writers vote.

Respect for the game as in keep the cheaters out or let Pete Rose in kind of respect?

Read a pretty nice article, can’t remember where, that argued baseball wouldn’t have survived after the ‘94 strike if it weren’t for the entertainment of the power monsters that came shortly after. Makes me wonder how it will be set up to survive if this strike takes away from the game, because your best players (Trout, Ohtani, Turner, Betts) don’t exactly get the world excited for baseball.

Don‘t worry, putting a runner at second in extra innings and sternly wagging a finger at pitchers & batters who slow the game down will fix everything.

On the other hand, Bonds, Canseco, McGwire, and Sosa can probably get MLB in touch with some folks who could help.

(Also, it’s not a “strike,” it’s a lockout. It’s the owners that have shut things down, not the players refusing to play.)

Well, I see that you have chosen a side on this.
