That guy had some flashes of huge potential. Sad that didn’t work out at the time but seems better in retrospect.
It is a little odd to be named for all types of undomesticated cats though. That means Davidson, and kstate for that matter, could be bobcats, lynx, ocelots, cougars.
Wildcats, Cougars, Bulldogs...cool animals, kind of boring mascot names.
What I was saying was that a wildcat isn’t an animal specifically, it is referring to wild cats like the cougar or bobcat.
Northern WI has some great high school mascots. Oredockers, Black Bears, Hodags, and Watersmeet MI (UP) is home of the Nimrods.
It's easy to get cross-wired w/ common mascot/nicknames.
D-1 basketball schools with nickname Bobcats:

It's tricky living in B1G country because they all get their sports info from the BTN and can't handle data that goes against what they hear.
