So as of now - here's how the other leagues stack up to the Big 12 (hint - they DON'T!)
NET rankings:
Big 10 - 9 of the 14 teams would be the lowest ranked team in the Big 12
ACC - 10 of the 15 teams would be the lowest ranked team in the Big 12
Big East - 7 of the 11 teams would be the lowest ranked team in the Big 12
PAC 12 - 9 of the 12 teams would be the lowest ranked team in the Big 12
SEC - 7 of the 14 teams would be the lowest ranked team in the Big 12
Basically, the Big 12 is in its own galaxy this year. We are almost completely done with non-con games, and it is possibly the single most dominant season a conference is having in modern history. Any Big 12 team that gets 6 league wins SHOULD be in the tournament. The league is THAT much better than every other conference.
This is unprecedented dominance in a college basketball conference. Never before has a league separated itself so thoroughly. People need to remember this when we hit some bumps in the road in conference play. Like last year there was a reason ISU was what, 15-1 out of conference and struggled in the league. It wasn't like the team was playing great, then bad, then great again. They just were playing a drastically different level of competition in conference play vs. out of it. Obviously there are going to be some wild swings, (Iowa game vs. Baylor, for example). That's the reality of college basketball.
But we need to keep in mind when comparing ISU to other teams outside the big 12 this year, or past ISU teams. No ISU team has played in a better conference than this year's team. No team outside the Big 12 is playing in a conference that's remotely close to this one.
