2021 men's CBB coaching carousel

UNC obviously likes to keep the job in the UNC family. And Beard is a Texas guy and I don't think his style would fit there. I think Beard either goes to Texas or stays at Tech. It has been mentioned before he wants to stay in Texas because his kids are there.

I wonder if the Doherty failure has them rethinking the need for a UNC guy to take over, but I have no idea how UNC people think. If they want to hire Davis or Wes Miller instead of Beard, so be it.

If nothing else this ought to make UT throw some crazy cash at Beard ASAP.
They replaced Doherty with a UNC guy.

Huge blow to Tech. It will be interesting to see how Beard does at Texas. I wonder if he changes his style any to try and get the 5 star recruits that Texas can pull in or if he sticks with the defense first grind it out style?

With a guy that was already a HOF coach. Just a little different than dropping Davis or Miller into that spot. I think they had plenty of people that weren't happy when they dropped Guthridge in to bridge after Dean Smith left.

I think the defense grind it out style is what's going to win you the championships. His best team was the one with guys who could really score it as well, so I think his teams @ Texas are going to be scary good.

Shaka proved that you don't change who you are just because you've got the Texas job. Beard will naturally get better players but the style isn't changing at all and he'll win like crazy there.

Just hard to recruit the 5 stars to that style. I mean you can get guys to play defense still but they also want to score. That is what I think will be interesting. Tech signed a McDAA last year and he left during the middle of the season because he couldn't hack it there. I think he will obviously win but I don't see him doing anything different than at Tech because I think he was already recruiting the last two-3 years at a level just as good as Texas. But we will see I guess.

Just throwing it out there, but do you think they give Self a call? KU possibly facing some sanctions. He’s been rumored for NBA jobs in the past. I know I wouldn’t be overly thrilled with Wes Miller if I was a UNC fan

I like Wes Miller. He is considered a really good up and coming coach and if he works out there, you have a head coach for the next 30 or so years.

No one is calling Self - he will be in plenty of trouble, not just Kansas. It seems clear to me that he’s content to ride it out as long as he can, then will probably go the Kelvin Sampson route.

That’s a good point. But it’s a bit of a step down from your last hire who was already a hall of famer to the coach of UNCG. I mean Miller was thrown around as a potential candidate for our opening

You’re not going to get a guy who’s a hall of gamer already every time, even if you’re a program like UNC

ehh I’ll believe it when I see it. Pretty easy to blame situations on boosters. Nothings even come of Will Wade or Sean Miller

Yeah it’s the “if he works out” part that schools like UNC don’t normally have to deal with.

Didn’t expect Moser to be brought up with OU, that’s an interesting one
