My sister and her husband are heading to France to watch. We almost went, but it wasn't in the cards this year. We'll watch/record every US match and watch a lot of the others if we can. It starts Friday night with France taking on Korea.
We will coordinate a game watch or two for our daughter's soccer team, which should be fun. Despite being the favorite, the field is definitely catching up to the US. Sweden will be their toughest opponent in the group stage. Outside of that, Australia's size is scary, England is very dangerous, Germany just seems to keep getting better and France will be tough at home. I haven't followed the major players of the Asian countries as much (Japan, China and Korea) but they always seem to knock someone off along the way.
There are a number of teams that will put a good scare into us this year. This isn't the strongest defensive team we've had, but they are still the most talented team from top to bottom in the Cup. It'll be weird without Wambach out there. She was in the studio for the last friendly v Mexico and she was pretty fun to listen to. She sounded like she wanted to go out and celebrate after that last goal by Press.
