2017 New Year's Resolutions

Stop swearing as much as I do, and try not to get mad just because people get mad at me (I mainly have this problem with my wife, and it tends to snowball more than is ever necessary).

So you are the guy all the "regulars" at the gym hate for the next month. :jimlad:

I generally don't make resolutions as it tends to make me put off things that I need to change until this time of year (and by then I may not be quite as committed to it).

I quit smoking for good on December 21st. Started working out every day on December 2nd. Trying to change my diet, mostly due to digestion issues. That's more at the experimental phase right now, though I do eat radically different than I did before.

1. Read 20 books.
2. Make it through all of 2017 without drinking any pop. I have a bet with a buddy.
3. Give up Facebook and Twitter.
4. Payoff student loan.
5. Start Roth contributions.
6. Run a 10k.
7. Join a martial arts class.
8. Start a college savings account for my daughter.

I've seen some people choose a theme word for the year. Mine for 2017 is discipline.

ooooooooo another 10k-er. Do you already do a lot of running or are you following a plan to get to 10k?

I started shutting my laptop down earlier at night this fall and I can tell it's greatly contributed to how much reading and cross stitching I've been able to get done now.

I'm not much of a runner in general. I trained for and ran the 5 mile turkey trot in DSM on thanksgiving. That was my first time doing any sort of "race".

I turn 50 one year from today. I'd love to come back here and say that I lost the wieght I want to lose, have eaten better, not lost my temper more than once every 2 weeks or so. Unfortuanely I've got almost half a century of history to overcome.

I'm eternally optimistic, though!

My 2017 resolution is to get a new car. Best case scenario, it happens around March or April.

I got all my 2016 resolutions achieved:

Graduate college: May 2016.
Get my second and third IT certifications: March 2016, and July 2016.
Start my career: August 2016.

I ditched Facebook in August before I hated everyone I was friends with. A certain election was my undoing. I've been much happier since then.

Good luck with giving up pop. I've given it up for several months at a time, but then I'll go out to eat or go to a movie theater and cave in. I have limited myself a bunch though and drink a lot more water than I ever used to.

I'd make 5 and 8 a priority. Once you get in the habit of living without that money, it's not a huge deal. The earlier you start both, the better off you'll be.

My only resolution for the year is to try to keep learning something, regardless of what it is. I have a tendency to get stagnant sometimes and get to feeling sluggish.
