2016 Rio Summer Olympics

Just catching up on the thread and wanted to add a piece regarding the gymnastics scoring convo from earlier.

I really think Mtown was having a hard time understanding why gymnastics can't be scored differently from the current system. If you are a casual viewer, it's a legitimate question. It would be boring, but it would take away some of the subjectivity. You could have everyone do the same routine and gauge everyone against one another.

Problems with that theory:

- Someone (presumably a governing body) would have to come up with the routine that is difficult to separate the elite gymnasts from everyone else. Some skills and apperatuses benefit different body types and heights. Coming up with a uniform routine that is challenging enough, yet attainable for all regardless of size would be near impossible, not to mention potentially dangerous.

- You'd never see a new move. Gymnastics has tons of moves named after people. There would be zero advancements in the sport.

- Boring. As mentioned before, gymnastics is technical, but it is also artistic. You'd squash any intrigue and lose casual viewers altogether. Would you really want every floor routine having the same music? Every vault to look exactly the same? Every dismount to look identical? Blah.

I feel bad for the guy who swam the semis in place of Phelps. He does just as much work and Phelps gets the medal (and a chunk of change if I'm not mistaken)

If you swim in the prelims of a relay you also get a medal. You just do not get to be on the podium. Up to six swimmers can get medals for the relays.

Our worst tennis injury so far has been about 20 stitches on the forehead incurred during doubles when kid on other team followed through over the net and into his head. He was pretty pissed when I pointed out that it should have been our team's point because of that because they forgot to raise the issue, what with all the blood and all.

If you stand that close to the net, especially when the other team is winding up for an overhead, you deserve to get hit.

Sorry, but imo this "Cupping Therapy" seems as bogus as Kinesio Tape.

...Proponents say that cupping can help with pain, back problems, and other general aches. But modern science has not been able to confirm the benefits beyond a placebo effect...

Too bad the swimmers don't wear speedos like the divers? :)

They still look mighty fine and they also spend most of their time in the water.:)

I spent dinner at the pool as multiple lifeguard kids had to work during water aerobics and couldn't come home for dinner, so I took it there. And then come back and watch swimming. A bit of a step up from old lady water aerobics and the five year old one of my kids was giving a lesson. Can't believe that many old ladies showed up, it's kind of cold.
