2007-2008 Record Change

Rashon was a great ISU representative, and has always shown class.
Wesley acted like he was the same, then burned us all, at a very delicate time for ISU basketball..
That's why all of the difficulty with the way that he left. - he did it in a manner that seems very spiteful.

I'd love to know what really is going on, if we have a bigger problem (ie. systemic). We need to get players that want to play @ ISU, and that used to be the way it was..
Now, not so sure and we are all concerned for the university we care so deeply about.

Back on topic, I agree that the most likely connection seems to be that UK was scouting 'Bama at the tournament and a UK scout got in Wes' ear after the game. Based on KG's (who I can only assume is Kyle Gass) comments and the timeline that has been established, this seems like the likely event.

I think this is the reason that this has turned so big and hostile. As fans of ISU we have had a couple down years of MBB after having some great times. It looked like we were reaching the end of a dark tunnel and ready for the big jump next season and then the door just got shut in our face.

Probably the first reaction would be anger, but people need to keep there cool and realize there are other doors that lead to the light that we want. However those doors may be farther away.

I'm pretty sure it was all of you PRAISING Wes that have now FLIP FLOPPED. He went from being a savior to the most hated person at ISU...
Thanks for the nice comment for my other comment

I do have one thing to add to this though. I think most people are doing their best not to bash Wes. There are a few though, but again you have to look at this from our point of view. We loved Wes. I personally loved watching him play. I liked listening to him being interviewed and seeing him interact with the fans at events. I love his smile! Everytime he went out there and hobbled on his one good foot, I was impressed. And he, along with Rahshon, were the biggest reasons why I wanted us to just get over the hump and win one of those games that we came so close to last year (Texas, Kansas State, etc.) As a fan base, we take this sort of stuff personally. We are mad (at him, at the coaches, at the doctors, at the whole situation)---that's why people aren't exactly big fans of Wesley Johnson today. And since Wesley Johnson is apparently not a fan of Iowa State today, we are even.

And I think that while there would have been a lot of disappointment if Wes had left like the numerous other players have left, it wouldn't have been quite so pronounced if he hadn't left in the dark of the night, so to speak.

I just love playing detective...here's my theory...

WJ's brother attended the Vegas tournament, saw the altercation between WJ and Mac, then after the game talked to WJ...saying, "you don't need to put up with that...he shouldn't treat you like that...you're the best player on the team...you could go anywhere you want...yadda, yadda, yadda"

The seed was planted and his brother probably kept watering it throughout the season.

Now as far as the UK connection, don't know...maybe his brother has connections there, maybe it's his brother's favorite team, maybe he has a crush on Ashley Judd...don't know...maybe there is no connection to UK...

Am I the only one who is sick of the "you can't judge him because you don't know what his entire story is" line? All I know is what Wesley has choosen to reveil...nothing. From that he will be judge (in my opinion) by the facts which are:
He was great for ISU when he was here
He left for no APPARENT reason (obviously there is one somewhere)
He totally screwed over McDermott by not talking to him about it before hand.
He did all this in the least honorable way possible.

Using the facts we have, my opinion of him is less than glowing...:skeptical:

He can at any time hold a press conference or post on facebook/my space/cyclonereport/cyclonefanatic/DMR/ect. and everyone would listen to his side of the story, but he would rather not explain to anyone. Way to be a grown up about the situation. That is how I solve problems too: run away and not talk to anyone.

You have a great point, as I am sure Wes is probably reading a good share of the threads regarding his situation. If he just posted what the deal was most would back off or at least begin to understand the thought process. Until then many are going to continue to rant and rave.

I honestly believe that what happened in Vegas, the scuffle between McDermott and WJ, led to WJ having thoughts about transferring. When WJ confronted McDermott at midseason about their relationship, things didn't get better, they got worse...leading to more thoughts about a transfer.

His transfer to Kentucky has no connection to the game against Alabama outside of his scuffle with McDermott. The connection is one that WJ established last August when he toured to Australia with Athletes in Action. The coach of that team was Jeremy Cox, head assistant to Billy Gillespie. The head of administration for that team was Peter Warden who is the Director of Basketball Operations at Kentucky. Not to mention the fact that on a side note that Jeff Bergstrom is now a grad assistant at Kentucky.

Bottomline: Put the injury aside. WJ's relationship with McDermott began to go sour in Vegas against Alabama. His prior relationships led to him choosing Kentucky as his destination and the place where he will finish his collegiate career.

If we were talking about anyone else would this be an issue? The fact is the Athletic Department decided to get in front of this story, before Johnson made the announcement. As for the LV thing, I give Wes credit that he continued to play on a broken ankle knowing that he was going to leave.

As for the posts, of course it hurts, but why teer everyone apart just because your angry. ISU has survived before and we will survive again.

The only negative thing I have to say is that regardless of whether you think GMac is a good coach or a bad coach, he has got to do figure out why everyone is leaving.

I thought I had heard of Gillespie having a tie-in with the AIA team WJ toured with last summer, thanks for filling in the details.

I can't find anyone on Kentucky's staff w/ ties to Alabama so maybe it was a scouting thing....probably Ashlee Judd!!

Back then Kentucky was playing some pretty rotten ballgames and they may have been trying to fix some leaks in their offense. The team played better later.

I THINK I'VE GOT A CONNECTION

washingtonpost.com: Alabama Booster Convicted

This article talks about an Alabama booster who got busted trying to pimp a player to different schools, including Bama and Kentucky for payment. Not sure if there was a connection with this guy at the Vegas tourney or what, but thought I'd share.

Just substitute the name O J Mayo...probably common for the best players to be approached. Money is monewy even in college. I still find it intersting that the big stud played one year at KSU.
