12/17 Official Coaching Search Thread

Let me throw a name out there...Larry Blakeney...long time HC at Troy.

Took the program from DII to DIAA to DIA and has had success all along the way. Older guy but clearly not one to move around...I think only Bowden and Paterno have been at their school longer than him in DIA.

I heard him interviewed before his team came in to play LSU (and they almost beat them by the way) and was VERY IMPRESSED. Not sure he would move Troy because the program is really his "baby" but he is a quality coach that can do more than others with less in my opinion. He has always played a killer BCS non-conference schedule every year.

Also, interesting that there is no Jim Leavitt talk...I guess the weak season at USF has tainted his star...I'm sure there problems are totally related to McCarney leaving his D-line coaching position.
 
If this about Hill is true I may have to go home and start celebrating right now. He would be an incredible hire. Successful, fearless - is not afraid to schedule anyone. Loyal - he has been at Fresno a long time. He would be on an even par with Patterson as far as accomplishments go.

Jim Leavitt used to coach at the University of Dubuque...

This was a time where the Big 12 actually played defense and teams were not scoring 60 points every game.

Just for reference, the top team in the big 12 in 1995-1997 was less than 30 ppg.

It sounds like it doesn't matter because we have chosen a new coach.

I don't like the Pat Hill idea just like I don't like the Chris Peterson. It's a different world on the other side of the Rockies and alot different recruiting circles... Niether haved coached on this side I beleive...

You have a point there, but perhaps its an untapped market....if we can pull Florida and Texas kids, I don't see why we could pull southwest kids, and it does get cold out there in a lot of places unlike Texas and Florida.

Is this just an attempt to see if we can get this rumor stated as fact from 4-7 on KXNO today?

Hill would be a pretty decent hire. I agree with the qualities you note, plus if you've been to Fresno, you know it can't be easy to recruit there. As far as attractive locales in California, Fresno isn't near the top. Also, Pat Hill is well-respected in the coaching field and should be able to scrounge up some top-notch coordinators.

Still, it's just a rumor. And seems odd to me that Pat Hill would remove his name from consideration at UW, which seems like an ideal fit (from the outside anyway) for him, and would come way out here. Surely UW's got more money to throw around than ISU - for salary and facilities.

No way it is Hill..straight from their website:

"Their eldest, Michael, is a recent graduate of Fresno State. Matthew is sophomore at Fresno State and Zak is a freshman safety on the Bulldog squad."

Its gotta be, I for one find it quite funny. Let's keep making the rumors bigger and bigger and see how dumb we can get an on air personality to look. We start with Pat Hill and we Build it up to The Big Tuna.
 
Pat Hill? Awesome. I think he's a solid guy and as we all know will play anyone anywhere. He would stare down Ferentz like none other

As the husband of a Washington Grad, I tracked the UW hire pretty closely. The thing both my wife and I kept hearing is how run-down the facilities are at Washington. The prior AD, Barbara Hedges, really ran the program into the ground. My guess would be we currently have facilities at least equal to those at UW.

One of my first thoughts when ChizDik left was Pat Hill, but it went away pretty quickly. It would be an excellent hire if true (key words).
