Swanson has just been a horrible signing by the Cubs, no way a team can afford to pay that much money for a player hitting 8th. He is a decent fielder, it's not like he is Ozzie Smith out there at short.

Nine straight. Craig going to show some fire, or just be melancholy as per usual?

He would be a good target to trade at deadline

Wicks is not even a top 30 ranked prospect in our own organization anymore. He turns 27 in September, hardly consider him a prospect anymore. Sure maybe you throw him into a deal that involves one of our top prospects but he's not a guy that someone is going to demand be in any trade involving a meaningful piece comin to Chicago. He also has not been able to stay healthy for lengthy stretches and when he has been healthy the results in Chicago have not been good. In 95 big league innings including 17 starts opposing hitters have hit a slash of .291/.347/.830 against him.

If the Cubs are going to trade for meaningful starting pitching help the prospect price is going to be costly. Right now I just hope the Cubs can right things and start rolling of a streak of series wins to get back into contention. Only 2.5 games back from the division despite this funk and half a game up on the final wild card spot but need things to be trending in the right direction over the next month if they want to be in position to be serious buyers at the deadline. Getting some of our own guys healthy will help as well.
Ok but he’s also not starting pitching a good team would want to count on. My point was calling him up best case he preforms adequately and is that depth pitcher a trade partner demands to give them innings for the rest of the year. I think it’s obvious getting a really good starter starts with Shaw + +. Maybe Wicks could be the lesser +.

Project would a better description than prospect.

You couldn't trade him if you wanted to because I doubt any team would want him and have to take on the salary, his contact also has a full no trade clause. He ain't going anywhere without a price. Cubs would be better off biting the bullet and releasing him.

First you’d have to sit him. Make it apparent Ramirez is going to be Hoerner’s new double play partner. I think he’d request a trade. Then you work a deal hoping you don’t have to eat more than half of what’s remaining on his deal. 27-29 BB reference says he’s owed $81M.

Is any of that of going to happen? Why would any team be willing to even pay half of that $81m for him? They would be better off just biting the bullet and releasing him. He is not going to get improve, and is not the future.

There is no way he is waiving his NTC just like Happ and Suzuki weren't the past few years when the same ideas were floated out there about trading them. May as well say we should ask Bregman to waive his NTC clause while you are at it. Swanson is basically the infield equivalent of Happ, He gets hot once in awhile with the bat but you can't sit him because he's too valuable defensively. Swanson is probably one of the top defensive SS in the game right now. Just stinks that he can't find that magic he had in his last 2 years with the Braves offensively.

Probably better off trading the guys Swanson and others are blocking to add meaningful help to the roster than gambling by taking on dead contracts by trading or cutting them.

You don’t know that. If you sit him with conviction he’ll demand a trade. Probably.
