Haliburton's Return Boosts ISU's Hopes as Big 12 season opener looms

Having him back is great, but he can't play forty minutes a game either. Everyone is going to have to be a lot better if they're going to be competitive in Big 12 play. I'll be curious to see if or how Prohm tweaks the lineup. I'll be really disappointed if we don't see more of Conditt at the five along with TH, Nixon, Bolton, and...I don't know, just a warm body at the four.

We're about to find out.

0-0 with a winnable game on Saturday does sound nice, but that's the type of thing I said during the McDermott era. Maybe low expectations will save my sanity in the coming months.

Why can't he? He played 35 per game so far this year (all 40 against Iowa, Seton Hall (home), Michigan and OSU) and in 2 games against TCU he played all 40 minutes. Monte played almost the entire game and I think Tyrese is capable too.

Yeah, I'd say my hopes aren't THAT boosted. It'll be interesting to see if they can compete.
I don't blame you for feeling that way after Tuesday's debacle. It's fully warranted. Tyrese makes the team infintely better, though. Good enough to make some noise in the Big 12 and maybe be middle of the pack? We'll see.

He makes a night and day difference for this team, no doubt. I am concerned that the wrist pain may linger all season, though — and God help ISU if he takes another hit to it.

We could win but that is dependent on the players attitudes and Prohm getting a little fire in his belly to get accountability up.

Based on what I have seen, I will no longer feel a need to watch the games live. If they actually start showing up and winning some games against real competition I can watch the replay's at my leisure.

I think I've had enough humiliation for this year already. I'll steal from the football team and say the MBB team needs to #PROVEIT

If you are humiliated by the results of Iowa State sports teams then you have some really big self confidence issues that you should really address.

Our front court needs to get a lot tougher and more mean, box out with an attitude.

This is part of the problem. Rebounding is not just the responsibility of the one or two bigs in the game. Rebounding - especially defensive rebounding - is the job of all five players on the court. Many times a big will block his guy out and get beat to the ball by a guard his teammate didn't even attempt to block out.

Watched the replay of the Big 12 semi in 2000 versus Okie State yesterday. It's unreal how many rebounds Kantrail and Tinsley had, and how tough (defensively) that team was. Prohm should show that tape to the team. Maybe they'd both learn from it.
