Ashley Joens named National Player of the Week!

Awesome. Did anyone else think Ashley was getting a little gassed at the end of the game Sunday. I felt for her. Wish CBF would give her just a little rest during the game. Six players accounted for 193 of the available 200 minutes.

Ha, beat me to the punch on this. Just noticed the ISU posting on it.

If you curser on down below it , ESPN lists the Top 25 schools as weighed for both MBB and WBB. Was a little surprised to see ISU at #21 considering both lost to Iowa at home last week. Previously we were unranked in this special ESPN thingie.

Huh - I had not seen that list before, but it's interesting. Thanks for sharing that!

Super-early Joens career analysis:

Joens scored 408 points in 35 games last season. She's scored 220 points in 9 games this season. Welle scored 2149 in her career.

If Joens plays 30 games per season the rest of her career (a reasonable number barring serious injury), she needs to average around 18.8 ppg to be ISU's all-time leading scorer.

We all knew she was good, but was anybody predicting that she would have this sort of offensive production? Not me. This is almost too good to wish for.

Kinda surprised in the way the points are coming. She's essentially tied for third on the team in three-pointer attempts. Getting most of her points inside. She's a decent sized guard but she's been kinda banging inside like a big forward and getting fouled a lot. If someone pre-season had said she'd be averaging over 20 I'd have thought it would be "volume" shooting from outside and not this pretty efficient and productive inside and at the line. She lead the team in threes attempted at 5.6/gm last year and is at 3.7/gm this year.

I am expecting some of that to change a little in conference though, it's not like the NC is loaded with teams with interior strength. On the other hand , with the exception of Baylor/Texas/KSU, I don't think the league is strong inside and bottom of the league is pretty weak sauce overall so who knows till we play the games.

Speaking of shooting threes, no one on the team other than Rae (surprising 40%) is shooting better than 33% from long range. Team is at 30%. Maybe not surprising with all of the lineup experiments and so so opponents. We shot better in conference than NC last year.

She is getting most of her points at the line. That has the double bonus of scoring and putting the opponent in trouble. She really is looking like Carlton part II. Just earlier.

I suspect Juicy Landrum will be POW this time around as she broke the NCAA 3-point shooting record Wednesday by making 14 3-pointers in the game.

geewago I saw some high lites of the game. In them it did not seem to be anyone really playing defense against her. 14 is a fantastic number just wonder what was the defense really like.

Well ArkSt seemed to concentrate more in the paint at first. Several times though they got in her face and she still popped them. It was just a matter of a player getting in a zone. I remember last year when Scott had a streak where she was hitting them at an unbelievable percentage rate. She cooled off after a while but it was unbelievable there for a while.

Let's put it this way -- Baylor was up by 64 with under 2:00 left, and she was still out there chucking.
Yeah, she probably should have sat down earlier, but at the same time if a player is one stat away from a triple double or approaching a record a coach will often leave him/her in so they have a chance at the record. If they were up by 30+ with 6 minutes to go and she was 3 or 4 threes away from the record she probably should have been pulled. If she was just left in to get that last record breaking 3, then I could see it.
