Pollard announces his retirement

Which makes your speculation about JP also pretty tragic.

So just to be clear, you saw the videos of him not being able to walk when shooting around at practice but thought he should play in a game, and would make a positive difference?
Do you know something about why Pollard announced his retirement today, facts not conjecture? If not then it doesn't matter. I just find it funny that a person spends years getting a project up and finally being built, then walks away before it's even close to being completed. I guess I am jaded enough in my 60s to understand that generally there is a reason something happens like this, and it's not that they were ready to retire before the project is finished.

As for Jefferson, they showed him out shooting on the floor, the day of the game. No he was not going to be at 100%, but when your best player and future first round draft pick is not able to play, its hard to say he would not have made a difference if he had played.

I’m guessing given how annoyed he seemed to be with Rev Sharing and the new world of college athletics, I’m guessing CMC leaving and the dealing with 18-21 year olds who were more concerned about how big their paycheck is sped up his retirement timeline. I’m guessing his plan was to stay until CyTown was done, but the last year moved things up.
As someone that lives out of state, what is the timeline for CyTown?

Hopefully the new AD looks at JTS capacity. I am no fan of contraction but the people in my row just keep getting fatter (myself included). I spent most of the past two years of games either finding a different seat or sitting in the aisle seat with literally half of my ass unsupported out in the aisle. It is time to reduce the number of seats in a row so people can actually sit in their seats. Eliminating two seats in each full section row would have a measurable effect on total capacity but it would contribute greatly to fan comfort.
Not to mention the number of times I've gotten to our seats to find someone who is rather reluctant to move down because "there are more seats on the end so just sit down there." No. Because people will come sit in those end seats. Every. Single. Time.

Has Jamie done some questionable things? Sure. But he's absolutely been a great AD for us. Although we didn't have much control of losing OU and Texas to the SEC, Iowa State athletics over the last 5-10 years has never been stronger with many of our big programs doing well in the regular season and in the post season as well.

My only wish for the new AD is to move the student section back to the NE corner.
And closer to the floor at Hilton

I don’t think anyone has a clear idea, officially the University claims Q3 of next year, but based off what CW said today it’s all up in the air since the BOR is holding up the process

2025/26 has been a great/terrible year. All the wins, great individual performances, good coaching and administrative decisions.
But Campbell, most of the FB team leaving, the gymnastics debacle, WBB implosion, Jefferson injury, Milan transfer, and now Pollard retirement. Been kind of a tough 12 months.
Never a dull moment in Cyclones fandom!

I'll lean that way unless proven wrong. I won't ever be in that boat perhaps as a result of this feeling - but if I came into a few mil even, I'd be done. Enjoy life, spend time with the kids, even if they already don't want to. Golf, workout, travel. None of this work was meant to be our defining legacy.

Enjoy retirement, Jamie.
As someone who retired earlier than Jamie, but with much less money, enjoy the s**t out of that retirement! Life’s too short

He did an amazing job. With the direction college sports is headed it's probably a good move to get out.
I grew up an insane sports fan. My loyalty never swayed from my home teams. But, now the fun and excitement of college sports has been so materialized it's lost its soul. I'm with Jaimie. Time to retire from fandom.

The Pollard haters are having a field day on Socials with this. The haters lack of anything resembling common sense is insane. The people that believe Pollard could have done anything to keep Campbell here are insane. The people that think its Pollards fault we are not keeping up with the money at TT and others is ridiculous, if anything Pollard has done more with less and made it work when others could not.

I havent read all of this thread today, been too busy, but woof there are some real idiots out there with some of their takes on Pollard. Some even believe he was going to be fired if he didnt retire. Seriously that one is one of the dumbest takes out there.

From what Pollard said recently BOR is expected to give approval at next meeting with groundbreaking next month. Timeline pushed back a year for completion in 2028 is what I’ve heard.

There are a lot of people out there that don’t live in reality. At least it seems that way because they are prevalent on social media.
