30 years of sports talk radio.

Deace sucks. He’s a Michigan fan who was carpetbagging as an ISU fan.

Whatever happened to Sean Roberts? Travis, Heather, and Sean were a summer staple for me. Lot of baseball talk

Before this round of layoffs he was hosting the afternoon show with dbag hawk Lucas Strain.

I will admit when the news first broke about Fred being named the head coach my initial in the moment reaction probably was a bit like Perrault's where I thought it was probably a mistake to hire a guy with no coaching experience even if he was an ISU legend as a player. I warmed up to the idea pretty quickly though after the dust settled from the announcement.

Trying to remember who the guy was that Travis was initially paired up with who was not on too long before he moved out of state. That was some BAD radio as neither could carry a sports conversation for very long.

Looking back the shows I enjoyed the most were Cotlar & Company and Sports Fanatics with Chris and Ross. The rest of the shows in 5 years won't be memorable enough to me to me because they just weren't that good. I used to have a big negative view of Ken Miller and I think that was mostly tied to his days with Marty Tirrell as those 2 seemed like they were tied at the hips and I never could stand Marty so I kind of viewed Ken the same way as a result since he enabled him to be who he was. Especially after all the dirt came out on Marty I did not buy the BS Ken was spewing about how he had no idea what Marty was up to because some of that spilled onto their show at times when someone Marty screwed over called into the show and called him out on air about it. Over the years after Marty was off the air I started to come around to Ken while loathing having to hear Condon talk. Maybe it was because the other 2 KXNO shows that bookended their show were nothing special that actually hearing some good in depth sports talk and guests that Ken lines up made that show better when the bar was not set high for the other 2 shows.

He does a podcast that’s essentially what his radio show always was. It’s cleverly named The Tony Kornheiser Show.
I had forgot about that! I have listened to it, and its not quite the same. I stopped listening but maybe I will give another shot. Since I don't follow NBA, NFL, MLB, hell barely even college sports anymore - I do enjoy his random old man ranting about whatever trivial tragedy he has going on.

I liked the Umps eye view (or whatever it was called)

Ump's eye view was good. I think it was an hour once a week, but some pretty good stories and you usually learned something about the rules of baseball. It couldn't have been an every day show or even segment, but an hour a week in the summer was perfect and very unique.

To have two guys living in Iowa that together were basically the Forrest Gump of baseball for 25 years is remarkable. If something crazy happened, you can bet Tim McClelland or Eric Cooper were on the crew calling it.

Yeah Deace was a Michigan fan, but he started talking about Iowa State when no one else did. He filled that void. We never had someone on the radio that even somewhat cared about Iowa State. I really think he is part of the reason we grew our fanbase in the early 2000's.

Think of some of the callers over the years... They might have made you cringe but you remembered their names.

Tommy from Des Moines
Diamond Dave (didn't he have a brother or something that called in)
Anthony who no matter what he talked about ended it with Go Hawks
Derrick in New Sharon

I'm sure I'm missing a ton of them... But you would hear them daily.

I thought Fred and TJ were both reaches/mistakes. I thought Prohm was a very solid hire. I thought McDermott was a home run.

Don’t let me run coaching searches.
