I think Blazing Saddles is his best and possibly my favorite. Robin Hood: Men in Tights might be my actual favorite, though.

That's among lines from Mel Brooks films that are adaptable in everyday situations if you're interacting with someone you know gets the reference.
This is the important part.

Otherwise you'll be in HR hell for the next 1/2 hour, which is about how long it'll take for them to can your ass.

I voted Space Balls. They had me with the loud music intro, then the fake Carrie Fisher took off the head phones...

The fact that I found Star Wars lacking (personally), but hugely popular, added to my enjoyment of the parody.

In addition to his writing, Mel Brooks know how to pick and get the most out of his actors. Zero Mostel in The Producers and Madeline Kahn in Young Frankenstein (to name a few) are outrageously funny.

Voted Spaceballs, but my first Brooks movie was "to Be or Not to Be". Its less crass than most of his stuff but still slapstick.

My sister and I will often refer to random people or character actors as "He's world famous in Poland!"

"Shall we continue to build palace after palace for the rich? Or shall we aspire for a more noble purpose and build decent housing for the poor? How does the senate vote?"

"F*CK the poor"

Hard to choose with maybe the greatest satirist in the history of film.

But, to me, there's a clear "Mt. Rushmore" four you can't go wrong with –

Blazing Saddles

Young Frankenstein

History of the World, Part I

Spaceballs!

If you think about it, the four of them are the perfect sendup of four genres that dominate the history of Hollywood (not exclusively, but darn close enough) racked up together –

Western
Horror
Historical Epic
Science Fiction/Fantasy

I watched Young Frankenstein again about 10 years ago and it's my top now. Blazing Saddles is close second, and Men in Tights a little behind that. I'm not a huge Star Wars guy, but I do like me some Spaceballs.

My 17 y/o loves Mel Brooks movies. I'd been seeing a bunch of History of the World Part 1 clips on Instagram yesterday so I decided to watch that with him. He said it was dumb but he watched the whole thing with me. He doesn't sit around for 90 minutes with me for anything these days so thanks for that Mel. He about lost it when it got to Hitler on Ice.

I can relate. My kids almost never watch movies with me anymore, unless it's Mel Brooks or Monty Python. Or something newer that they are into and I don't get.
