In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

The Quik Star on the corner of Grand and 16th is flying up, went by there a couple of weeks ago and they were doing earthwork, went by yesterday and the building is up, all the gas pumps are in and they are pouring concrete for the pumps and driveway.
What town is this? Went by this location in Ames and there is no dirt moved. @1SEIACLONE

When they built the Merle Hay location in Johnston it was crazy how fast they put that thing together.

They're building one at the entrance of my neighborhood (Waukee off of Ute) - when we went to OKC in May they were pouring concrete. By the time we got back (10 days later), the studs were up and they're already working on the exterior.

Absolutely detest having a gas station at the entrance of our neighborhood, but I'm impressed with how quick they've put it up.

I went down first street at like 9:30 PM and there were multiple cars in the drive through. Boggles my mind. I don't think I've ever seen less than like 8 or 10 cars in line at the new Hyper either.

I'm a coffee fiend and I don't get it. Give me Dunkin 10 days out of 10 for about a third of the price. I just don't see how all of these places make it in the long run. Hell, Starbucks built a brand new store in Johnston on Merle Hay and it wasn't even open a year.

I've said this a billion times in various threads on here. But DaVinci's was the best pizza/hoagies/cheesebread in town until they closed. I still crave that ****.

You can still get it if you're ever in Lincoln...and it's still good.
I delivered for Davinci's in those little trucks they had. had a group one time come in around close and ask if they ordered delivery to their apartment on S Dakota, could I "deliver" them with the pizza. I assume it violated every work rule possible, but I totally took them.

I've actually been impressed with the Maverik stores when I've been down in Central Iowa in the past year. They aren't Kwik Star, but they blow Casey's out of the water.
The one at Lincoln Way and South Dakota is meh. One by Mortensen and South Dakota is worse. Casey's building across from Dollar General probably took some business away but putting a Kwik Star at the corner of Mortensen and South Dakota might put that Maverik out of business.

Since the Kwik Star was built at Dayton and 30 I'm shocked the K&G/Maverick is still open. KS there is ALWAYS packed.

I've been to the one in Bondurant and the one just off I-35 in Ellsworth, both were clean, well ran, and had pretty good food.

Yeah the ones in Ames are in the minority. One off 36th in Ankeny is nice. I stopped at one in Colorado Springs that was nice as well. The ones in Ames are quickly becoming some of the worst c-stores in town.

Didn't someone leaving a car running at a dorm while delivering and someone hopped in and took off?
That sounds familiar. Wasn't it a car that was painted cardinal and gold? This is probably a Mandela Effect story, but it seems like I talked to the guy and whoever stole started out thinking it was funny and then realized "crap I just stole a car" and chucked the keys in Lake Laverne.

Overall that story seems way off - why would the car owner know the keys were chucked in Lake Laverne? But I do think there was a story like you mentioned.
