KXNO Sports Fanatics

I believe Ken & Trent paid to be on KXNO so I wonder if Trent and the new guy will still be on or if IHeart is just going to go full National radio or maybe even shut down the station completely?

Their shows weren’t the best, but I hope Sean, Heather and the rest all find something better then iHeart. This is probably the death knell of KXNO and they’ll get their wish to syndicate the entire channel.

Well, that’s the end of KXNO I’d have to think.

This has been telegraphed for the better part of a decade, and I can’t imagine any of them are all that surprised, but this makes me grateful that CW et al got so far out ahead of this with Iowa Everywhere.

Iheart is letting go of people all over the country again. Next will be voice tracking from a studio 500 miles away or A.I. Radio is hurting big time. The radio stations in Newton (KCOB and Energy 106.7) and KGRN in Grinnell were shut down (for now) on June 9th by the company that owned them due to "financial difficulties".
KCOB and KGRN had iconic sports departments. John Carle at KCOB was awesome back in the day as the Voice of the Cardinals. And Frosty Mitchell at KGRN….. a lot of us kids would play hooky during girls basketball tournament to listen to Frosty broadcast every single one.

IHeart has been trying to do this to Des Moines and KXNO for a decade now. Difference is they don’t have the lineup and listener support at the level they had years ago so they finally were able to get it done.

Local radio is dying (dead?) and unfortunately, listeners will get all national stuff in markets like Des Moines.

Yup. Only reason they aren’t getting axed - they aren’t employees
Yep, maybe as long as Trent keeps paying IHeart they will still keep the show on but my guess is they will just want a clean (National) slate IF they even still keep that station on the air.

I'd be surprised if his show stays on KXNO. Iheart can say they are done with local programing altogether. Sean was the program director and without a local person in that position now they may not care for keeping that show in the lineup

Definitely going to tune in to hear what Ken has to say. He could just go out in a blaze and trash iheart as he really has nothing to lose at this point. I hope he does and drops the mic lol

Yeah I have a feeling Ken is going to go hard on it. Hell knowing IHeart though they may not even let his last show air tomorrow.

Well ****, guess that's pretty much all but the end of local sports radio here in central Iowa.

Its been on life support for a few years now. National decision makers make it hard for local radio to be successful. They give the listeners a bunch of crap to listen to with over half the shows taken up by ads. With streaming music and podcasts their model is so outdated, plus they keep getting rid of the good shows and hosts.

This feels like the same move iHeart tried to make a few years back when they fired most of the local people. Listener push back made them walk that back, but murph and andy are gone now, miller is retiring, and the remaining local shows have been mediocre at best.

These circumstances emboldened corporate to try the move again, and this time, there won't be enough outcry to stop them.

Sucks to see people fired, but I haven't found the recent lineup all that compelling.

Damn, that sucks for how thing ended for all of them. Hope they find other passions going forward. Thankful that CW has IE and how that really can fill the void for many.
Pretty sure that’s why CW created Iowa Everywhere. He knew the corporate radio media would axe the KXNO locals fully eventually. I give CW a lot of props for seeing things years ahead of time.

I also agree with post above mine. There’s not going to be enough backlash this time around to get the local folks their jobs back.
