This happened to come up from the R2, but other brands are doing the same, Rivian isn't alone. I'm not a huge fan of getting rid of all forms of communication that don't require satellite or cell signals. I know it's unlikely, but situations could arise where this could be at best a boring letdown (middle of nowhere, wilderness, cell/internet/service outage, etc) or at worst an actual danger (adverse weather conditions, natural disaster, emergencies). Radio does still serve a narrow purpose of being a very long-ranged, very reliable safety and information communicator with basically zero other dependencies. Maybe it's going away sooner than I would've expected.
I stumbled on that on the R2 forums this weekend as well. Pretty disappointing IMO.

Making radio disappear is a mistake. You get out west or up to Alaska, it's pretty easy to be out of cell service. In Alaska I learned a lot of semis are hooked to star link for their communication needs.

I still use the radio in my car every once in a while but it feels like an ancient artifact tbh. It's so far behind any other music/podcast service available.

I use radio every now and then. Caught sporting events on it many times, or postgame shows. Got speakers in the garage that I'll run one or two of the DSM stations on while grilling, doing short chores, etc. instead of getting out the phone Bluetooth. Short drives in the car I tend to use radio instead of plugging AA in for that few minutes. There's little reasons around for me to use it, at least having the option is a plus. I could get by without it, but wouldn't prefer it.

I used to never listen to the radio but with the kids now more at a age to talk more and be constantly talking over top of my podcasts I gave up on listening with them in the car and back to the radio I went.

Buying a Ferrari is a little different animal than buying any other sports car though. It's like buying a Rolex or any of those other super high end watches. You go into it buying a used one and you have to build up a purchase history before they let you get one of the high end models. At a certain point they give you a call and give you the opportunity to buy the new hotness and if you decline you might not get another chance. Ferrari being Ferrari I could see them telling those customers that if they don't buy one of these monstrosities they don't get a chance to buy the next V12 monster.

"Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Rivian's shares at the IPO in November 2021 would now be looking at an investment worth $158.81."

Eventually companies have to be profitable. IDK how close they are, or what their balance sheet looks like or anything, but to paraphrase the Iron Lady "eventually you run out of other peoples money".

They seem to have very good product, so hopefully they can make it profitable and survive. We could use a US champion in the EV space. Tesla, yeah, but having a 2nd would be a very good thing.

Also something for all the SpaceX investors to consider.

It took Tesla 18 years to be profitable. Anyone that listened to such advice missed out on life changing ROI

Investing in nascent tech isn’t for everyone.

I know this is going to trigger people, but I would love to see Tesla buy Rivian. I would love to buy another Tesla but they have no models that interest me and are different than the model Y. Tesla has the capacity to pump out R2 and R3's. I would buy one tomorrow.

HAHAHA I knew it.

Ferrari doing Ferrari things.

I actually might buy a few shares. It's sitting at $16 and some change right now. If that R2 is as popular as it seems I could see that stock taking off.

Kinda ironic that the lower oil prices are reducing Rivians expenses to make them more profitable.

Yeah if they are successful it will be a huge W - like a 10x in 10 years kind of stock.
I hope they do, I like the styling more than Tesla or most other EVs. And the Bomberman headlights.

I’d prefer they stay separate for those design purposes and future off road direction.

Daughter fell asleep in the car so I killed time by driving through a Honda lot tonight. Why can’t they just make a hybrid Pilot/Passport?

No clue, Honda and Toyota have **** the bed. One problem is that they are both concentrated on the U.S. market which isn't demanding them yet. Nearly everyone else is doing better.

the next gen will be. though yeah the fuel economy isn't great on our '25 Pilot compared to the
'20 Palisade it replaced.
