*** 2026 US Open Shinnecock Hills GC Thread***

I actually think this year they don’t want that to happen.

The course is brutal with wind so crazy fast greens are not being planned.

Remember Phil putting a moving ball in 2018?

The guys on Live from had the pin positions for tomorrow. Very conservative. Between that and the deliberate slowing of the greens the USGA is clearly worried planned high winds will make the golf course unplayable. If the winds hold off I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple guys shoot four or five under in the early wave

Talking heads on the Golf Channel saying if they get the predicted winds, they expect play to be delayed/suspended. Balls won’t be able to stay in place on the slopes of these greens.

Also mentioned how much USGA is slowing the greens down. Could be as low as 10 or 10.5 stimp. Typical majors are 12 to 14

But if the morning group doesn’t have the wind, easing up on the greens still feels like a big opportunity. It isn’t like they can adjust these as the wind picks up.

I agree. I forget who it was, but the one guy changed his pick to win (M Fitzpatrick), because he has an afternoon teetime tomorrow

Even if you were to wager on guys to make the cut, how do you confidently say someone with an afternoon tee time tomorrow would be there on the weekend?

Then, if they delay tomorrow afternoon for wind, would that group have to play 36 on Friday and the Thursday morning group would finish Saturday morning?

Wind looks bad already, but on the bright side, it’s so foggy that you can’t see anything…. 15 minute hold already

Gonna be a tough break for today’s morning group. They’ll be hitting the back 9 by the time the winds pick up. Then the afternoon group will be able to finish their round tomorrow when the conditions appear more favorable.

Very small sample size, but 30ish holes played, and no birdies

If this is the "easy" morning, should be some solid carnage for this afternoon. Even with the softer/slower greens, only 5 guys under par so far, and they are all -1. I'd love for +3 or so to be the winner.
