NFL: ***2026 NFL Season***

That is what I thought as well...there has to be more to this trade for Cleveland...right?
According to the Athletic they are still working on the total number of draft picks and Cleveland gets a younger player that had 12 sacks only making $4 million a year, compared to $27 million for Garrett.
The Browns are not going to win next year either way, so getting younger and cheaper, while adding at least one more first round pick seems like a smart move. They now have 2 picks in the 2027 draft in the first round.

Verse has 12 sacks in two years total, not just last year. Yes he's cheap for two years, but he's going to needing a new contract soon and his rookie contract 5th year option won't be cheap since he's made two pro bowls (it'll be franchise tag value).

Get why they made the move still, but Verse is still a massive step down from Garret. You're replacing an absolute game wrecker with a very good player who they'll have to overpay to keep long term.

I must have misread what it said, you are correct he had 7.5 sacks last year. Verse is only 25, so you are getting a player four years younger and saving $23 million next year, plus the draft picks. Is Garrett going to make the Browns into a playoff team, most likely not, then why keep him around and pay him the money he is due?
This is the type of trade more bad teams should be willing to make, get rid of players that are not going to be able to help you win 2 or 3 years down the line, while saving money to use on other players and get draft picks to build the team up. Now Cleveland will most likely screw it up, but at least they are trying.

Super Bowl or bust for LA.

The Super Bowl is in their stadium this year, they understand Stafford is getting up there in age, and this might be the best chance to win another title before they make a change at QB. Getting McDuffie and now Garrett has to make them the favorite to win the title going into the season.

But they have Ty Simpson! Just kidding...

Wasn't the super just there a couple years ago?
