Best part of the campus is its walkability. Visit other campuses and you'll find bikes or buses are mandatory just to go from one class to another. And in some cases even in different cities (looking at you Minnesota-Twin Cities)

I usually walk briskly, but I was able to walk from Hawthorne Court to Carver Hall in under 20 minutes. It's great to have such a compact campus for a large university

Its kind of crazy how compact/walkable it is while still having the big open spaces. From a pure layout/design standpoint it is really good.

Sometimes I wish there was a little more uniformity to the buildings around campus, but another part of me does like that there is the variety and historical nature of when they were built.

I have memories both based on growing up in the Ames area and going to undergrad at Iowa St.

The places that give me the most nostalgia are:

-The Memorial Union and immediate surrounding area
-CY Stephens, Hilton, and Jack Trice
-Kildee Hall (my dad was an animal science prof and I had several classes in 125)
-Richardson Court/Knoll area (my freshman dorm was in Lyon)
-Logomarcino
-Welch Ave Station and Cafe B

Nothing beats walking out of the MU and seeing the fountain of the four seasons with the campanile in the background. I've been lucky to grow up close to Iowa State, so I had been on campus hundreds of times prior to even going to Iowa State but I always imagine what the kids who had never seen campus before think when they step out of the MU.

There is an Oak? Tree in the courtyard of BWR that would change the most vivid colors in the fall. I remember walking through there to class and just marveling how the campus would change the school’s colors…

Favorite place: the now non-existent sand courts north of Beyer where I spent a ton of time and met my best friends and wife
Most nostalgia : Welch (early 90s)
Special to me : courtyard at Lago
Best view: walk around the zodiac, then leave the MU
Where I feel my most Iowa State: standing between Bearshear and Curtiss and looking all around
Best memories: too damn many

There used to be a giant American Elm tree next to MacKay Hall facing central campus. It was my absolute favorite tree on campus and would turn the most spectacular gold in fall.
