Williams & Blum: Congress vs. College Sports, Momcilovic Gone & Texas Tech Fires Back

Chris, the one major flaw iin your reasoning on the Cruz-Cantwell Bill is assuming 100 percent Republican Senate Support. I think you will find a lot of resistance from Republicans in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennesse, maybe Soth Carolina and Florida. The latter 2 have major schools in other Conferences and may have some independence like Cruz and Cornyn in Texas. And Ohio, who knows? The issue is the SEC Senators have the same big dollar supporters the SEC schools have.

Different strokes for different folks, i get that

But

In the doledrums of summer I’d rather listen to cw/blum talk about

“greatest games”
“Remember that guy”
“Untold stories”
“Reliving the big 12 missle crisis”
“Best almost cyclones”
Etc etc

Than listening to why the sports world sucks right now

but I’m probably just trying to bury my head in sand

I enjoyed the podcast greatly. I'd much rather hear discussion on the major issues currently effecting us than a bunch of superficial talk about the good ole days.

Keep it up Bent and CW!

I really appreciate CW and Blum talking about all the negative things that have been happening to ISU over the last year nearly now…. that is the reality. There have been a few positive things too IMO, but they are covering those too.

As for the “most of the players would have stayed if JP had hired Mouser” thing…. I’m really tired of hearing that as well. Because even if that is true…. it would have been a horrible hire by JP, and inexcusable too. So no need to even bring it up anymore IMO.

Assuming if we hire Mouser and Campbell would still take his 23, there are maybe 8-10 players left of value that we would have likely overpaid for out of loyalty.

He or Blum addressed this specifically, it was only a comment or two so easy to miss

The business of sports is probably my favorite topic on the show. I understand others would prefer other topics, but I'd argue it's the only important topic, as Iowa State athletics could eventually be on the chopping block if nothing changes, and then discussion of game results or players would feel trivial. Both CW and Blum follow certain things closer than me, so while I sometimes catch headlines, they've usually read up on the latest developments. As for the mood being negative, I must listen to really negative podcasts, because, of the shows I listen to, I would not call this one negative. Not only did they say 50 times "Sorry for being negative," but I don't think anything they say is a pessimistic or fatalistic read on any one issue, they just discuss the goings-on and what might affect Iowa State

I know it's totally unrealistic...but personally - football is for Jimmy Rogers and the administration to care about. I'm not obligated to. Would rather talk about ESPN's preseason rankings that came out today, when the guys are arriving for June workouts, what wing minutes look like next year, etc etc

All this sounds better than rehashing the CSC on a weekly basis or what a dipshìt Sorseby is

I think the graphic under Milan's name when he is the NBA is more important then they make it seem. My reasoning is because that helps with recruiting and recognition of Iowa State as a whole. If we want to get out to of the mid tier we have to have folks in the professional leagues (also win games). Look how much having the guys in the NFL raised ISU's stature in college football. If all our best players finish elsewhere and that school is on the graphic when they are in the league and when they get drafted ISU never climbs the ladder. ISU coaches put in the work developing these guys, they should be able to reap the rewards.

I just recently rewatched Animal House and what I think this pod needs is a toga party. When the Deltas were at their lowest and things looked bleak, they threw care to the wind and organized a night of fun for fun's sake. Grab one or two of these topics, a couple Ames Lagers, throw on the metaphorical* togas and just have some fun for an evening.

Unless someone will sponsor literal togas, in which case by all means...

Just no acoustic guitar on the stairs

What CW and Blum are missing is that the opposition (mostly Democrats) is saying that the bill limits what athletes can earn while leaving coach, AD, and executive salaries untouched. The bill would cap player pay, restrict player movement and still have no union. The labor wing is saying the workers (players) should get to negotiate before anyone locks in a ceiling. It's not a socialism/free market debate, it's management vs. labor.

To be honest, the show is not nearly as fun to do these days having to talk about all of the negative stuff. I wish it was all sunshines and rainbows all of the time, but then many of you would crush us for being too positive.

It's not perfect, but we're doing our best with what we've got. College sports are on fire right now and unfortunately, the school we all love is in the crosshairs. It's a massive story and we're going to talk about it because - that's what we do.

You might not have listened long enough because we did indeed touch on this ... but I believe it was at the very end of the show.
