ISU RELEASE: 2026 Cy-Hawk game will kick at 6:30 and be broadcast on NBC

Iowa is lucky they have only gone through one coaching change. A coaching change in this rivalry normally means at least two losses in a row. With their one change, they lost 4 in a row. McCarney, PR, Campbell all struggled with Iowa out of the gate. The only exception was Chizik with the Shaggy game, but that was one of the worst Iowa teams under Kirk. They were 6-6, didn't play Ohio State or Michigan and lost to Western Michigan.
2 coaches in 45 years is one hell of a run. Surely they're due for a really bad hire or 3. Surely.

You’re right, that is a little tougher than their usual schedule. I guess it was just a habit to assume their list of opponents was weak!
I believe college football is wide open year to year as it is now. Except the same 15-20 teams will be there every year, sometime with great, sometimes with not so great teams. That is my expectation. The rest are fillers unless they break away.

Maybe. Nebraska last won 9 games in 2016. They are 67-75 since they fired Pelini. They might get back to winning 8-9 games, but they aren't going to be some power. Same with Wisconsin.
Nebraska will never get back to the hay days of the past, but they have the resources to win 8 to 10 games a season. I would say the same for Wisconsin, it wasn't that long ago the they were the cream of the division, and now look at them. Make a poor coaching hire and it sets you back, something EIU fans will be facing in the next 5 years.

They are very fortunate that Barta didn’t have to choose a football coach. The last time Iowa had the caliber of AD like Barta and they chose the coach, they went into the wilderness for 20 years.

Nebraska hasn't won 8 games in the last 9 seasons.

I’ve attended three games at Kinnick. I don’t think it’s gonna be for me this year. Years ago, we rented all the parking of an apartment building behind Carver Hawkeye so it was all Cyclone fans. That was tolerable. The last time I went, I was with friends who dragged me to a Hokeye tailgate deep off Melrose in Hokroach nation. I will never do that again.

No they haven't, but they have the money to do it, poor coaching hires have held them back. Look at Indiana, until they hired their current coach they were beyond horrible. But with him, they are winning championships, now Nebraska I doubt will reach that level, but when you have the money and support they have, its going to be hard to keep screwing up forever and not winning games because of poor coaching hires. Recruiting means less every year, when you have money to pay the players, you now just have to get the right players to win and that you can pay.

Indiana will be a nice test case, they are winning, but how long can that continue? Will their donors keep shelling money at the program if they start to struggle and what once costs you $25 million now costs you $75 million and rising?

Nebraska's best seasons in the B1G were with Pelini, and that's the best they've had since Solich.

The 'mystique' of their greatness has carried for a long time without being much beyond decent for two decades.

So what you are saying is that Nebraska, with all its money, resources and past history, will never win again, no matter what happens, the days of even getting to 8 wins is never going to a happen?

Then how do you explain a program in much worse shape, never having success, little attendance at their games like Indiana that all of a sudden going from the bottom of the conference to the top? They can find a great coach but Nebraska with its resources cannot?

Nebraska made a lot of hiring mistakes and leaving the B12 hurt them as it took them away from their decades long recruiting of Texas. But they have money, resources and history that other schools can only dream about, put in the right coach, the will win again. And with NIL money, your recruiting region is now less important than ever, because you can now just offer a kid more money to get him to go there. Few want to leave in West Texas and attend TT, but when you can make a few million dollars per year, that changes everything.

No I'm saying their best days post-Solich were with Pelini and they weren't even that good then. The program was a shell under Solich as it was.

The 'they couldn't recruit Texas' thing is a poor excuse imo and puts the B1G on some sort of pedestal. They averaged roughly 9.5 wins on either side of being in the Big 12 or B1G with Pelini and were convinced they could do better.

I have no idea what their future holds but it's a little odd for someone to be so hopeful for them.

Their greed did them in, but while Pelini was a very good coach on the field, his actions forced them to fire him. You can never have a coach act and talk like he did to the fan base and hope they are going to support you. The guy brought is cat to the spring game and the news conference afterward and wanted to talk about the cat, not the spring game, he was trolling the fan base.

Hire the right coach, they will win at Nebraska, politics and doing it the way we always have has killed them. Rhule is not the answer either, Frost was in over his head and is not a good coach at all, hire a young coach with fire and desire, or an overlooked coach like Cignitti, they can turn it around.

I attended the 2002 Cy-Hawk game at Kinnick, which was also at night, and although the game itself was amazing and I was so thrilled to see it in person (that was the Seneca Wallace show that night, and it was glorious!), but I swore I'd never attend another Cy-Hawk game in Kinnick ever again after that one.

The tailgating before the game was bad enough... just having people walk up and yell profanities at you... which I know if fairly "normal"... but after the game walking out and having full beer cans thrown at you, among other things... was just disgusting.

I'll pass.
