Why is life worth living?

Not usually. I had my house re -shingled and re-sided for under 25k less than 5 years ago. I’m not saying this isn’t a tough go for him, but this seems exaggerated or he got absolutely fleeced.
I assume that price includes the new roof and fixing damages / mold issues that the leaking roof caused.

If you call eBay, and walk them through this process, there’s a really good chance they’ll reinstate the account. They look at the account as a whole, especially since you’re doing a frequent amount of transactions, and I would assume based on my limited knowledge of Pokémon cards some of them are higher dollar transactions, that plays into and kind of trips, their internal “fraud” alarm. At the end of the day, eBay wants you to use their platform so if you can provide everything, they need to remove the flags, chances are good theyll reinstate everything. You might need to develop Ein number just for your LLC, but that part is easy and can be done online. I had to do the same.

This also strikes me less as a customer service appeal type issue, and more of a arbitration rights type issue, which you do have the ability to do under eBay‘s user agreement
No, we actually tried a week of that first. Being nice and working through the layers with documented evidence and even a letter of good standing from the State of Iowa, a letter from the bank, and additional paperwork. They have a no appeal policy when it comes to certain things and because they accidentally tossed this in that bucket, not even their C suite person over operations wouldn’t budge. The official stance is that we got screwed, but their board policy prevents one of appeals in this type of situation. I’ve seen plenty of other examples online of similar situations and the same outcome. It’s so ******* stupid and frustrating. What you say makes sense, but they don’t give a **** even though we were making them good money.

Only on CycloneFanatic can you open a "Why is life worth living?" thread and find a breakdown on costs for replacing your HVAC system.
Hey, if you started the year in a mountain of debt from medical **** and then everything I listed hit, you’d be questioning if it’s worth it too. Maybe others have more money or it seems trivial but we’ve basically been put into a situation where we will never be able to pay off all the loans as we don’t have enough extra after my wife’s paycheck and my disability.

Sorry for being open and real.

Yes - Hubble did a ****** job on the build 11 years ago so half the price was replacing molded wood in the attic, laying new plywood, etc.

Does a roof really cost 50k to replace?
See post above - half was fixing damage done because of years of unknown leaks, excess heat buildup (Hubble didn’t even have the vent holes cut in the roof, they just had the vent hoods on). It’s seriously been like the worst scenario of each thing. Thus my rant.

I apologize to those that question everything, I can show you the bills and statements of work. Normal suburb home, not high end. At 11 year mark since built. I’d be more than happy to host anybody that thinks it isn’t a horrible nightmare train of events.

I’ll go back to dealing with it all in my head instead of trying to let out the steam.

I know I’m not well liked on here anymore and that’s fine, I’ll go back to view only mode.

On a different note, thanks @Jer for posting. I've been wondering about you and your family and hoping that meant good things. Sorry it's not been that, and yet we're all here because of you. Take a bow! And ignore the peons.

I think anybody that's questioning the numbers is more so doing it out of a place of concern for you along the lines of are you getting ripped off? Don't abandon ship, there's a lot of people here that go through a lot of stuff and I think that sharing helps.

Rule of thumb I'm learning about HVAC and plumbing is to avoid companies that do tons of advertising.
I would add that you avoid Golden Rule like the plague as well. I have a friend who's kid started working for them as a technician. Friend was telling me that Golden Rule pays hellish good bonuses to technicians that sell a brand new installed HVAC system and pushes them to sell despite HVAC system being servicable. That company will never set foot in my house.

I'm right there with you. Going through medical stuff myself.

Glad to hear from you again Jer. Sorry I can't offer advice but sorry to hear about your home issues. We went through a lot of those costs around year 15 or so of the house. They don't make things to last like they used to it seems. And yes, water damage can be very expensive. I have a coworker who had a small leak in a pipe that went undetected for 20 years. They started getting sick all the time and found there was mold inside the walls making them ill. They essentially had to tear down half the home to find the source,

So at least you caught those leaks before it got too serious.

Sixty-odd years ago as a pre-teen I found my dad’s revolver in his closet. Whatever the reasons at that age/time, I loaded the gun and considered doing myself in. Ultimately I resolved that whatever was troubling me, there were still tomorrows when if I was so inclined, I could still do that.

I’ve never considered suicide again.

In retrospect, a life’s low points are offset by peak times and the constant mundane that includes ever-present opportunities for pleasure and reflection (as well as the things on the other side). These days I have my health problems, aches and pains, have had a few near death health incidents and have outlived all of my best childhood friends. Fortunately I have a few friends still from my working lifetime, have made new friends in my retirement years and have the comfort of a good marriage and adult children who for the most part seem happy and to be living well. I’m happy to continue and experience it all, IMO.

There is a sunny side, and if one can’t get there on their own, we have good medications that help these days. There’s no shame in taking meds to help alleviate pain and/or depression.

I meant no offense at all. Didn't read the entire thread. Sorry for the insensitive remark.

100% agree, and can confirm they try to sell new units even if you don't need them. Was using them for the routine yearly checks on our new place a few years ago. House was <5 years old at the time, and they said we should really consider a more efficient unit. Called to cancel the yearly plan that same day.

Not sure what age others here are, I'm 54. I've learned that the "50s Squeeze" is a very real thing, at least for me. I assumed when I got into my 50s things would lighten up considerably, but my early 50s have been probably the hardest and most challenging of my life.

If you're not familiar with the 50s squeeze, it's basically just about all the things you find falling onto you as you enter that decade of life.

1. If you have kids, they're likely out of HS and often graduating college, transitioning out of the home into adulthood. Yes, the idea of an empty nest is liberating, but having kids transitioning into adulthood brings a ton of anxiety as well. And in some cases you may still find yourself supporting them financially after college.

2. If you're blessed to still have a parent or two, this is the age when your parent(s) are dealing with their own end-of-life issues, which is obviously very stressful for everyone. You may also find yourself financially supporting them, creating another layer of anxiety.

3. In your 50s is when you're likely to start experiencing your own health issues more frequently, and in many cases those health issues can lean to the more serious side.

4. These are your peak earning years as a professional, and the stress and anxiety that comes from maintaining your career or continuing to grow it and earn more, while also dealing with everything else coming at you, can be very tough on you.

5. Your own retirement is not that far off on the horizon, which obviously can bring a lot of excitement but also a lot of anxiety. Will I be able to retire at 65? 70? 75? Have we saved enough? What are we going to do with ourselves?

Everyone's different, but I can say all of these things have put the crunch on me over the past several years.

Sorry to hear all this guy is going through, but it does happen. Just seems like when one bad thing hits, then they all start to roll in at the same time. We have been through some tough times ourselves, losing a job after twenty years, the unexpected passing of your daughter. It's easy to get down and start thinking this will never end. But in reality it will for the majority of us. There are time you just have to say to yourself "what the f**K" and then go on and push forward.

It's the struggles in life that defines us and how we deal with them, anyone can deal with success, but it's the struggles that shape our character and who we are.

Good luck and God Bless
