Astonishingly movies

I put Jo Jo Rabbit in the same category as movies like Sideways and Glory, technically brilliant and beautifully shot but so god damn depressing I never care to see them again.
Interesting…. all of the many, many times I’ve watched JoJo Rabbit, I’ve never come away from it being depressed. Definitely a VERY sad part in it, but overall did not find it depressing at all.

But everyone reacts differently to things.

Guardians of the Galaxy. Thought they were jumping the shark on Marvel stuff, putting some obscure comic on the screen because they were desperate for content. Figured it would be really dumb. Then they went for the irreverent vibe and it was great fun.

Project Hail Mary, I heard a lot of good things about it but I ended up adoring it. I like Ryan Gosling but that movie gave me an even deeper admiration for him. Just an overall feel good movie. I don't know if that makes it astonishing, but it will probably be my favorite movie of 2026.

watched the Spiderverse movie with my son and was shocked how much I enjoyed it. went in with 0 expectations.

I was ready to hate the animated TMNT movie a few years ago as well. I wouldn't say I loved it, but it was definitely watchable. would probably watch again.

The Spiderverse movies are the best Marvel movies and it's not even close. They're fantastic.

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

Had no idea what it was about going in, but enjoyed it and it was a fun ride throughout. Sam Rockwell was great in it

I would also throw in The Wild Robot. That movie is far too good to be so unseen. I can't recommend that movie enough. One of the best animated films in recent memory.

Speaking of Gosling, Fall Guy is fantastic.

Not a movie but I am watching "For All Mankind" and it's excellent. Yall might want to check it out if you have not

I mentioned it in the Streaming thread, but I've also recently gotten into this and it is terrific TV.

I love how they can just rewrite history and make it believable. Like all this stuff could have happened if a few little tiny things had changed. I think it's kind of the butterfly effect but in space.
