As a person who loves his personal space, I'd be gnawing on stuff waiting to get out of that capsule.

My SO was asking me why out of the thousands of satellites the orbit earth, that can take high resolution photos of the surface, one them couldn't be pointed at Artemis, follow it, and take live video of it during its launch, voyage, and return.
That's what I was telling her, she wasn't having it lol.Satellite very close to earth, moon far from earth. REALLY far.
Satellites would also need to be reoriented away from earth and that might not be possible or impact the life of that satellite
People also caught them on telescopes, but they lived streamed the entire mission. Like they do for every mission
Cesspool of AI.Wandered into the cesspool of FB comments on the KCCI story and then I remembered why I don’t wander into the cesspool of comments on KCCi stories.
Was anyone else like me last night thinking.... it's 2026... and this is the best thing we can come up with for rescuing astronauts from the capsule? Putting them in a floating raft.... out in the middle of the ocean.... and then having helicopters fly over head with enormous down spray and wind and hooking them up to a cable and lifting them back up into the helicopter?
Seemed like a LOT could have gone wrong there. Crazy.
I’ve been thinking about this as well, and it’s a bit discouraging tbh. It’s crazy how much change and innovation has happened since the 60s in other areas.I agree. But will also add that it's 2026 and we are essentially redoing what was done in the 1960's, we should be so much more advanced that this.

This plus NASA sees landing in the water and going back to that as the faster, cheaper, less complicated way to land. They also feel they can have a faster flight rate that way.The reason is the unwillingness to take any risks. No need to redesign much at all if you do what's already been done. Less to plan for, less to have backup plans for, etc.
