*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I get that, no one knows how is ankle is, but you are the All American player on the team. Is the ankle in a cast, are you in a walking boot? Then you have to tape it up and at least give it a go. You have to led by example here, and show your teammates that you are at least willing to try. Get out on the floor and start the game, if you are struggling to get up and down the floor, you can walk away at least saying "I tried, but just couldn't go." But to not even try is beyond me.

Just my opinion, but there is no way I could live with myself or walk into that locker room without at least trying to play tonight.
I think he got a pretty good idea of what his ankle could take in rehab this week and shoot-around. Having him out there limping around and not able to cut or jump normally wouldn't have helped anything.

You may be right. It certainly would have been a different game. I just honestly liked our matchup with what we had. I’m surprised thy were able to guard the perimeter as well as they did, and I don’t know how thy lost twice to Kentucky.

Tonight came down to the fact that they were just bigger and longer than us. That’s it. We went from a 6’8 3 to Heise at 6’3 or whatever he is. We had to play small ball against a really long team.

Our half court offense remains to be not great.....we truly are one of the best teams in the country when we're forcing live ball turnovers and getting out in transition....but when we're not forcing as many and especially when they're dead ball turnovers, it usually doesn't go well for us against really talented teams.
Yeah coach Nate sucks, nothing is creative about our offense. We have a 50% shooter from 3 who scored 6 points tonight. If we’re a serious fan base you demand better but I’ll get dumbed for wanting more. Hope Nate finds a D3 program to go wallow in he is the ultimate handicap and anyone who disagrees doesn’t want more for Iowa state

He ain’t wrong TJ loves winning meaningless games getting a little hype but never following through on it
I think there is some valid criticism of TJ in this. His roster management isn’t good - he’s so focused on destroying teams and gaming the metrics that we don’t develop guys. This season is a perfect example - Jefferson goes down and Dom Nelson has to play, who hadn’t played any significant minutes in what… two months? I don’t understand why he doesn’t play guys BEFORE you need them. We kicked the crap out teams and he had starters playing late in the game. Why? Work in some guys so they can contribute when you need them. It’s a long season and there are bound to be unexpected injuries. So maybe you only beat Arizona state by 15 instead of 21.

He’s so focused on winning the battle, he loses sight of winning the war.

And we have a 6'8" who doesn't fit our system who looks like a fish out of water if he's not shooting lights out

He’s a 6’8” three that got pushed into a role at the 4 that he’s just not cut out for. It’s not his game. He’s a tall wing not a short forward.

ISU's Tom Davis.
Iowa ran him off for "not taking the next step" & never recovered to a level equal to what Dr Tom had established. Having a run now, but remains to be seen in today's landscape if it will be an anomaly or not.

TJ is NOT an anomaly. He's a proven commodity, one who hasn't reached his ceiling. I'd much prefer he reach that ceiling (and make it the highest possible) right there from Ames. He'll continue to learn and improve every season. Wins & Losses may fluctuate as player movements will dictate that heavily, but I believe TJ will get ISU to multiple Final 4s.

Jefferson just said he wasn't even close to being able to play today and probably not Sunday either had we advanced.
Idk I'm not sure why some our fans fell for the bait that he could possibly play.....I mean seriously go back and watch the replay of his injury.....from the moment I saw that, that screamed season ending to me.

As disappointed as it is, losing without Jefferson should not surprise any level-headed fan.

Sign me up for Sweet 16s every-other year forever. The first two rounds are about how good you are as a team over the course of the season. From there, it is about matchups and momentum. The law of large numbers says that if we keep getting to the sweet 16, eventually we’ll get a favorable matchup and break through!
As a guy who grew up watching ISU basketball, I feel like we are living in the world of Johnny Orr and and can’t get over the hump.

Do…do you actually think Nelson would’ve saved the day replacing a 6’9 All American if he’d played more against Oklahoma State and Colorado? That may be the wildest thing I’ve seen all night

Lipsey wasn’t the problem either. Better free throw shooting would’ve been nice, but his misses weren’t really the issue.
Our guards missing ft's is obviously super frustrating but watching us not convert possible and 1's....or getting to the bonus as quick as we did in the second half and already knowing it wasn't going to matter was such a disheartening feeling
