*** Official #23 Tennessee vs #6 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I like your “We blinked” explanation a little better. :) I mean sure we had another one of those scoring droughts against Illinois in the Sweet 16 but at least you didn’t say that time it was because they had superior athletes.

Well now you're just being weird.

If any thing good can come out of this game it should be used to show Milan that he needs to toughen up and play a man’s game. 6-8 and zero rebounds for the game. Constantly pushed around under the basket. Needs to spend more time in the weight room to put on some strength. Muscle will build confidence and swagger.
You can’t just add muscle to Milan and change him into a different player. He’s tall, but he’s not a paint banger and adding muscle isn’t going to suddenly make him an athletic rebounder. He’s a pure shooter and that can work if you can get him looks and he’s having a good night hitting shots. He didn’t hit the few get got tonight. When you lose a 6’9” AA, that makes it even easier for a team to defend Milan.

Can’t blame Milan, you could make an argument that the coaching didn’t scheme well enough to get him more looks, but you can’t blame him not being a rebounding machine in the paint.

He's not ever going to be that guy. He'd at least be showing some signs by now.
Also, Milan should have 100% wanted the ball in his hands to at least try to get fouled when he saw his teammates struggling at the line. He needs to develop into a leader. I’m not 100% down on him, but he’s got plenty of growth/development to do. I agree that he needs one more year.

I said the exact same thing early in the year. He's slow and not athletic but he can shoot lights out. If he added Niang's inside game it would be a huge benefit to his game and to our offense.
It seems like someone convinced Milan that he was the 3 point sniper for the team and he spent his time on the floor hanging out around the 3 point line waiting for a shot. He forgot all about how he can post up for an inside game and use his size to his advantage. With Jefferson on the floor, we didn’t need Milan’s inside game. Tonight we really needed his inside game but it but it wasn’t there.

On to next year... I just really hope we can hang on to some of our younger guys next year.... especially Toure.

Jalen Rose just said that he thinks we would have won the game if we had Jefferson... so there ya go. We're just plain cursed. Iowa goes into this tournament looking like s**t... and somehow gets to the Elite Eight playing out of their minds... and we lose our All-American 3 mins into the tournament and never really had a chance after that.

I hope Arizona wins it all... but I really doubt I'll watch another second of this tournament... just not interested at this point at all.

Well that sucked. I had a feeling Tennessee's height and rebounding was going to be a problem but I didn't think we'd get out rebounded by THAT much. Tennessee had so many second chance points it was insane.

And all of us here and everywhere else on social media called it....our season would end because of ft's. Definitely not the entire reason but it was a large factor in not keeping us in the game, especially when shot making was so hard to come by.

Sucks to have the "what if" scenario again...feels exactly like 2014 with Georges breaking his foot.

Last thing I'll say is thank you Tamin Lipsey for being a Cyclone. He is the definition of a hometown hero.
Your last sentence is Gospel truth. If you remember Herb Brooks' speech from 1980, I think Tamin Lipsey was born to be a Cyclone and coached by T.J. Otzelberger. You'd be VERY hard put to find a better or more congenial match of talents and attitude. Yes, Cyclone fans should be very grateful for Tamin Lipsey. I wish him the absolute best of luck in whatever he does for the rest of his life. He did ISU and its fans proud.

It’s just honestly insane how we can’t get over this sweet 16 hurdle. Injuries or not, it’s gotta be somewhat mental at this point.

He can't get a shot off tonight how the hell is he going to do it in the NBA?
In fairness, they don’t let them hold, hand check and body off the ball in the NBA. They have tighter whistles and emphasize ‘freedom of movement’. Teams hold Milan constantly off the ball. I could see him getting off more shots in the NBA. It’s possible.

Games different with Jefferson. Everyone think Milon comes back next year? Or transfers to a team that can pay him 3 mil? It’s an honest question to ask

Milan saw a dose of NBA athleticism tonight, as he has throughout the season.
He has a loooong ways to go, from both o and d perspectives.
People continue to say, "d doesn't NBA matter"
Wrong, given the nut that every pro consistently states, when referring to "next level" no matter the sport.
QUICKNESS-SPEED.
Milan has neither.
Hope we retain him
