WBB: 2026 Transfer Portal

I hope Pollard can talk to some of the players and get their opinion on a replacement coach that would entice them to stay.
It's a joke, but also a good observation. This is a no-win scenario for the AD.

What happens if you fire your coach: the entire roster leaves.
What happens if you don't fire your coach: the entire roster leaves.

Common ground: the whole roster leaves. I guess at this point, I'd rather have someone else rebuild instead of having a lame duck year, then followed by yet another rebuild year. Setting recruiting back that much is painful.

They probably have thoughts about it, but will not address it publicly. I've heard Williams lament Crooks' defensive limitations on 2 guys. But there has been zero critique of the coaching. And I think many fans aren't necessarily mad about losing, it's way the team is losing. Just the seemingly obvious coaching choices being made that put our team at a disadvantage.
Guys everyone ran journalism an out of town because they didn't want to pay for it. A reporter for someone like the Des Moines register can be critical of the coaches, these guys can't they're completely beholden too. The athletic department or the entire company goes away. They have to be very careful about what they say. You can't hold that against him. I don't know them from Adam but they're in a really sticky situation.

Hoping Pollard has a new coach in cue like he did with JFR. Will have portal work to do.

I don't often give him credit, but it is wise for JP to stick to his guns on the rule "must have HC experience". Not as big of a deal 5 years ago, but in the open portal era you need that established head coach that will automatically bring 3-5 surefire starters with them.

To think replacing a coach right now is bad timing really isn’t on point. We are at the end of the season for the vast majority of teams and likely all who would yield a top candidate. This is the perfect time to make a change IF a change is going to be made.

And if it’s not, you are just delaying the inevitable to 2 years down the road.

The "money" excuse is weak and lazy. Good coaches can still coach despite not having the money to spend.
It’s sure a lot easier when you have really good players to start with. In the era of NIL, money is king. Just look at TCU. Throwing gobs of cash at sports and you can see what it’s done for their women’s team. Just spend the money and reload with top players.

I haven't read this whole thread and honestly cannot stomach it. I waited to say my peace, as I have learned to get the most information before speaking but this is enough. I am a Bill fan and was ok with letting him go out next year but I'm sorry, this screams something is really wrong. These girls are showing solidarity with each other. Each are posting about others leaving and showing love for one another. I have heard lots of things since Big 12 tournament from fans, friends and parents, that has really shaken me. I am a hardcore WBB fan and have been for over 25 years but if something doesn't change and quick, I will no longer be a getting season tickets.
I’m a fan of everything Bill has done, but after the second mass exodus in 5 years of the roster, it’s clear that something is going on in the locker room. I think the gymnastics situation has been informative as far as how much oversight Jamie actually exerts over non revenue programs, but he needs to step in and cut Bill loose, whether he retires immediately or is fired is his choice, but this is a come to Jesus moment.
I’m a fan of WBB, but it’s getting harder to justify season tickets next year, which just makes me sad

Bingo. I’ll still get season tickets regardless of who is coaching and who the players are just because I thoroughly enjoy the sport. BUT…the pathway college sports is heading down is sure a downer. At some point it will be, for me, like the NBA…something I don’t care to watch. Guess that means more money for travel…

Here's the deal. Fennely hasn't really had a competitive team since 2010. He's had a couple good players through, always the local kids. He's terrible at recruiting outside of about a 250 mile radius. He's the women's basketball equivalent of Tom Osborne at Nebraska. The game has changed. Jada Williams is the only real athlete we've had in years. Quick, can hustle, and play great defense. You can throw Emily Ryan into the group as well. But for the most part, our teams are slower, our offense older, and our team is just a step behind the top teams. The big 12 has fallen as far as women's basketball goes and we still finish seventh.
I truly enjoyed watching Jada play this year as she had such a quick twitch to her. Sadly, as much as I like J.P., the answer is right in front of him and he refuses to do it. Make beer available at all sporting events and use the money for NIL.

The fact she has not announced she is leaving yet tells me there is a chance.
I actually feel sorry for Audi. All of her money comes from endorsements not NIL so the only place she could go is really Iowa and I really don't think they would want her. She could literally give up her NIL and still be one of the highest paid women in college from her Hy-Vee endorsements and such. If she transfers, she won't have those wherever she goes. And wherever she goes, has to completely build the offense around her and only have one year with her. I think she's handled everything very gracefully up until this point and sadly she is the one I feel sorry for. That said I look forward to a team where everybody plays offense and defense and can get down the court. But she's been an amazing role model to so many young women.
