**** Official 2026 MBB Spring Transfer Portal Thread ****

Exactly. I'm not sure why there's this notion that Iowa State guys aren't getting really healthy checks.

I get that everything has levels but Iowa State isn't poor, regardless of what Jamie wants everyone to believe.
I wasn't saying that. We compensate really well for retention and I'm sure we pay incoming transfers well, but we aren't getting into bidding wars for guys who are mainly focused on maximizing their pay.

Agree there are levels, but my take on what JP wants everyone to believe is that we are poor in comparison to Ky, Kansas, Duke, and almost all of the teams in the Sweet 16 we are competing against.
Maybe going forward if Jamie self imposes a cap that no one else is playing by but this group was all signed pre-House.

International players still get paid and at market prices. There is no discount anymore fyi and everything is allowed.
Does that mean Pleta and Toure are on P-1A (our O-1A?) visas already? Does this typically only come after competing a year?

Where did the notion come from? From this website the last few years after every tough loss it's the same parrots throwing down the "if you don't want to see this type of football/basketball, give till you piss blood. And if you don't.......the losses are your fault".

Or the obligatory "we can't compete because ISU fans are such tight as***".

I wouldn't say a top 10 base. We will 100% miss Jefferson more than people think and miss Heise way, way more than people think. His ability to always be in the right spot defensively, rebound, both post players and guards really well is not something any other returner can fully cover today.

Being in the right spot defensively 99% of the time versus 90% of the time is a MASSIVE difference for our defense. Having Heise as a plug and play 99% of the time is huge.

Its also exactly what Robert Jones was so underrated. Go look at Kenpom defensive ratings in TJs 5 seasons.
2022: 88.5 - Both Jones (exceptional) and Conditt (great) were great at being in the right spot at the right time
2023: 91.0 - Still had Jones (exceptional) but Osunniyi was not as good at that positioning. Shot blocking skills helped a ton, but honestly, thats less important with TJ's defensive scheme.
2024: 87.5 - Still had Jones (exceptional) and Ward (great), plus Ward was a great shot blocker.
2025: 93.2 - Neither Jackson, nor Chatfield were good at being in the right place at the right time defensively.
2026: 91.3 - Buchanan is great, but not quite to Robert Jones level. Pleta is good, but not to the level of Conditt or Ward yet.

Ranking TJ C's on the ability to be in the right place at the right time consistantly, its pretty clear:
1. Robert Jones
2. Blake Buchanan
3. Hasan Ward
4. George Conditt (may have risen to higher level with another year under TJ
5. Dom Pleta
6. Osun Osunniyi
7. Brandtdon Chatfield
8. Dishon Jackson

Shot Blocker/Mistake Eraser (less important because TJ defenses don't make a lot of mistakes to erase)
1. Ward
2. Osunniyi
3. Buchanan
4. Conditt
5. Everyone else (neglible value)

Next year is exciting. Blake may move to the exceptional category and Pleta likely moves ahead of Conditt and Ward.
Not exactly sure of your metrics on "right place at the right time", but I would overall say Buchanan is an upgrade over Big Rob, and that is saying something as I love me some Big Rob Jones.

Not really the staff is talking to who the want and think it’s a narrow list. Dishon Jackson committed 2 years ago before our Sweet 16 game for example the staff doesn’t rest.
Plus the good publicity TJ has to sell with the state of his program and a Trsnsfer AA in JJeff show be pretty attractive to the right targets.
And I would add other transfers, Curtis Jones and Keshon Gilbert, made it to the NBA this season.

Until Pleta has a missed free throw and put back dunk.... he can't move ahead of Ward. He does have record though for most ground covered without a dribble with just outside the 3pt line. Your list looks pretty spot on though when you put it like that.
Did you read my post at all? It has nothing to do with offense. In fact, it's not total overall defense. Due to shot blocking, Pleta would never pass Ward. My list was specifically about being in the right place at the right time a higher percentage of the time. Pleta has the potential to pass Ward as he improves.

Overall defense Buchanon. Offense overall obviously true. Overall better player, Buchanon of course.

There are two very niche areas that Jones exceeds Blake, but those two niche areas.

Being in the right place at the right time a high probability of the time. Jones didn't block shots or get a ton of steals, but if there was a stat called "guard drives into the basket and says oh **** and a turnover occurs" Jones would be a he all time record holder.

The other area is ball screens on offense. I have never seen anybody perfectly set ball screens such that the ball handler was going in the exact correct direction after the ball screen. It was a thing of beauty.

If Francis Folefac from Siena enters the portal, TJ should try to outcompete Gerry McNamara for him. He would help fill the void left by J-Jeff.

Agree with that assessment stat-wise, he made 45-120 threes (38%), 80% from the FT line, a good offensive rebounder, a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio and almost 2 steals per game. The downside is that he's only 6'3" - and it looks like he only has one year left (2 years non-D1 and then 1 at NDSU)
It looks like his first two years were at DMACC. Do those years count against NCAA eligibility? If not, he could have as many as three years to play.
