Psychological advantages/disadvantages for ISU vs Tennessee

Sweet 16 NIL payments:
Duke $12.0mm
Arkansas $11.5mm
Michigan $10.5mm
St. John's $10.5mm
Arizona $9.75mm
Alabama $9.5mm
Tennessee $9.5mm
UConn $9.5mm
Illinois $9.0mm
Purdue $8.75mm
Michigan State $8.5mm
Houston $8.5mm
Iowa State $8.25mm
Texas $7.5mm
Nebraska $6.75mm
Iowa $6.25mm
Source?

I have seen lists like this and when it comes down to it they are generally just estimates because there is little to no public information on which to base the actual numbers.

I think it’s common knowledge at this point that NIL $ is estimated.

here it is.

Yeah MU/Bama fans probably won't be terribly loud one way or the other and ISU will probably show up better than Tennessee. I'm hoping Bama wins so 1) all the MU fans leave before the second game and 2) Sunday can really become Hilton East.
I’ve seen this a couple times on this board but is it an Iowa thing to call Michigan MU? Just never heard or noticed that anywhere else

I think the overall question implied is "Can you buy a winning team?" The raw numbers help, but I'd like to see a net of NIL per each round of games. That is, say Iowa State wins on Friday, that would show a net of -1.25mm. Then, those could be averaged per round (or whatever) to see if any correlation actually exists.

Their money bought players

Our money bought a team.

Factor in our coaching , you have a perfectly baked cake.

I’ve always seen:

MU is Marquette

UM is Michigan

TTUN is Michigan

scUM is Michigan
Luckily in conference we don't have any of those acronyms that repeat even though it looks like there should be. Colorado goes by CU while Cincy goes by UC. Also had to get used to while Texas was in the league it was UT (while most others put the U last). Arizona likes it that way with the "of" - U of A. I don't think Central Florida has an acronym to go by. ;)

I always have to remind myself that I am used to Kansas being KU but Kentucky goes by UK.

When I am watching or reading something local "the U" refers to Minnesota*, but anything outside this region it generally means Miami (FL).

*Gone around about this before but Minnesota has locally been referred to as "the U" for about as long as Miami has existed as a university.

So a list that has the NIL numbers really means nothing. Several could be quite accurate while there may be cases where player(s) may be at a school for a significant discount because of other factors such as lifelong fan, coach relationships, girlfriend goes there, style of play, legacy player, sense of loyalty, etc. While most of those may not be a huge difference they could add up. At the same time there are likely other schools who have to buy a team and are willing to throw a ton of money - because they have it - at players and may actually be spending more than what is estimated for a player(s).

Even if it is 'common knowledge' that it is estimated, it should be presented as such IMO. Too many people reference things like that as gospel.

Exactly. I've seen no less than 5 lists since last weekend, and all have different amounts (sometimes wildly so). Just posting a list with no source, no background, and presenting as fact is misleading.
