Here’s what Iowa State’s head athletic trainer Vic Miller said about Joshua Jefferson’s injury

I had a severe thigh injury my senior year of college football, offensive line. Assistant coach gave me pills before practice and games “to keep the swelling down”. Found out two years later they were Bennies, no wonder my play improved. So I can guarantee that, yes injury pain can be neutralized without reducing performance. Of course, our AD and staff would never allow this type of treatment.

How long ago was this? Wild that an assistant coach just has bottles of schedule 2 drugs to hand out.

1972, the coach’s claim to fame was that he coached Elvin Hays in HS in Texas. He supplied a pipeline of recruits from Port Arthur, Tx. that were very athletic but what would be termed “not college material”.

When I was playing ball in college (D3), I went up to dunk and an opposing player went underneath me as he was trying to block the shot. My feet came out from under me and I landed weird on my left ankle and it rolled very similar to how JJs did. It was a high ankle sprain and it took 3 weeks before it felt even remotely normal. I could barely put weight on it for a week and I definitely couldn’t play a game 2 days later.

Also I just made all that up because you can’t validate anyone’s sports or injury experience on here so keep that in mind.
