So many different eras of ISU basketball have been very fun to watch. One of my favorite ISU games in the NCAA tournament was against 3 seed Cincinnati in 1997. Willoughby was deadly from downtown, Pratt was one of the most unique power forwards of all time, Cato was a shot blocking machine, Bankhead was a lockdown defender, and Holloway was great at protecting and dishing the ball.

EDIT: I'm re-watching this game and at the 1:03:00 mark, Kenny Pratt drives and draws a foul. Cincy's coach yells "you can't guard him?" at his player. Thought that was pretty funny.

That was a fun game. Fortson was a beast.

That Cincy team was loaded. ruben Patterson, Danny forsten, K Mart. And I think a couple of others that got drafted but didn't really pan out. Also someone who went on to play TE in the NFL (I think).

The UCLA game in MSP. All the talking heads were saying UCLA was going to beat us, and we absolutely destroyed them in front of a 75% ISU crowd. Fizer shot in a 35 footer at the buzzer to rub it in when the game was way over.

It was glorious. And I cannot remember the place we went to, but I had an open face Rueben that was like 3 lbs of meat and delicious.

I concur!

That year, thousands of Cyclone fans traveled I-35 to watch ISU’s NCAA Tournament games that weekend (men in MSP on Friday, women in Hilton on Saturday, men back in MSP on Saturday, and women in Hilton on Sunday to finish the 1st & 2nd rounds).

Year-after-year (1989, 1993, 1997, & 2000), the NCAA Selection Committee se-up the ISU men to play UCLA saying “you don’t deserve to advance until you beat the Bruins). Finally , the monkey was off our back in 2000!

UCKA had gone lob city on Maryland the prior game so it was assumed they would on USU too without acknowledging that 5 days to prepare is different

Fizer grabbed a couple out of the air and UCLA acted like they had no other answers.

Not to be a technocrat, but the first two round wins over CCSU and Auburn were in Minneapolis. However, the 2000 win over UCLA in the Sweet 16 was @ Auburn Hills, MI. I was there! :)
