Nightmare scenario (Iowa)

Sounds like they are taken into consideration the tight athletic budgets and putting teams closer to home. Also heard on one of the podcasts that charter flights are expensive, so trying to get more teams within bus driving distance

Then Iowa should be fine, they have all that big 10 money!

I am sure TJ hasn't slept a winking knowing this could happen.

Just look how they have absolutely embarrassed the Quad 1 teams they have played.
That’s really not the point. I understand ISU would be a clear favorite and barring a really poor performance they win. It’s just that sitting through that game sounds like one of the worst experiences I can think of as a sports fan.

Ehhh....I'm not sure he's as great as everyone wants to believe. Just because the media gushes over him doesn't mean he's that great.
As others have said m not sure he can recruit well enough to really get things going over there. I have been really impressed with his schemes and in game adjustments though.

The worst that can happen is we lost to Iowa in the 2nd round. It would suck, but so what? We've lost to Iowa before, and we'll lose to them again. It always sucks. Bring it on.

Recruiting isn't as important as it used to be. Money talks. Although I'm not sure how much $$ they're willing to throw at MBB compared to FB.

Iowa isn't a very good team, and will probably be overseeded as a 10. This time of year it shouldn't mentally matter at all who you play. Every team you go up against is trying to end your season. If playing a rival in the tournament affects the way you approach an elimination game then you probably shouldn't have expected to do anything to begin with.

Thanks. I don’t play actually. Just a fan. I simply don’t like being tortured.

I would sign up right now to beat iowa 20-3 and have the game last 3 hours. Never has beating Iowa not been thoroughly enjoyable.

And yea, they have a coach now. He is doing exactly what Fran did, he just not as big of a douche bag, yet.

Not sure if you are a hok fan or what. They had a cute season because they imported an entire tourney team and played a pathetic schedule. I wouldn't put it past them to upset their first round opponent. I would expect McCollum to have a similar record to Fran over the next however many years they are there. They will make the tourney at least once out of every two years. They'll probably have a player or two come through that gets a bunch of media slobbering. So what's new?

They have a decent program.

Still dwarfed by TJs elite program.

We should actually welcome this. According to their fan boards the refs have been against them all year. We shouldn't worry though because they are sure the committee has a vendetta against them and will make them play Duke no matter their seed.
Edit to add:
My dream scenario tho would be for Penn to win today and then beat the Hoks for the sweet sixteen berth.

I appreciate all the confidence being expressed in this thread about our chances in the potential matchup. I was really just hoping that someone would have some insight into the process and would come here and ensure to me that for multiple reasons the committee will absolutely not allow this to happen. Lol

Wait until you see we play Missouri as the 7 seed in STL
We’d have to drop to the 3 line. Mo is a last four in but yes that would suck. On the bright side if we were the two in StLouis ESPN is projecting Missouri as an 12 and Illinois as the three so it’s feasible we could see an upset for our sweet 16 matchup on DC.

Iowa, TCU, St Louis and Villanova are currently on the 9 line
Santa Clara, Texas A&M, UCF and Ohio State are on the 10

Out of those 8, Iowa is not the one that concerns me the most. May be the one that concerns me the least.

I hate to break it to you, but Iowa actually has a coach now.

It seems like there's been some revisionist history as if Iowa was just absolutely terrible under Fran, in order to hype the new coach. Obviously Fran could never get it done in March which created a lot of program apathy, but its not like getting to the tournament was rare. Their defense was generally atrocious but he regularly had top 10 offenses.
