Direct Answer: A full-page ad in the Des Moines Register typically costs between $8,000 and $15,000, depending on whether it runs in the daily or Sunday edition, color vs. black-and-white, and which circulation zone (Central Iowa vs. statewide) you choose.

How Pricing Works

  • Base Rate (Column Inch): The Register charges about $268 per column inch for black-and-white ads.
  • Full Page Size: A standard full page is roughly 56–60 column inches, which translates to $15,000+ for one insertion at rack rate.
  • Color Premium: Adding full color can increase costs by 20–30%, pushing a Sunday full-page ad closer to $18,000–20,000.
  • Classified Ads: Much cheaper—about $189.80 for a 20-word classified ad, but that’s not the same as a display ad.

Well.... I had already moved on from all the emotions of this coaching change as of Friday. As a fan there is nothing you can do but process it and look to what comes next. That said reading that does make me more than a little sad that the CMC chapter has come to an end. For all the positives and negatives he still did something here I never believed was possible.

Feeling kind of grouchy that, after all the freebies I have gifted from the NYT and The Atlantic, I had to look at a gol-durned paywall...What's more, I have no idea where they might sell paper copies of the Register anymore down here in the sticks.

So, after some quick Brains Benton thinking...

Thank you, West Des Moines Public Library, for allowing me to read this online.

Takes a couple of jumps through a hoop, but it works.

Coach Matt Campbell- "Do not let the door hit you on your way out." See ya Matt!!! Your ad was money wasted!!! Bring the hate!!!

Not butt hurt- just not a sap to those that no longer want to be associated with Iowa State Athletics. Matt Campbell made a decision- I respect his decision. I am not going to get all weepy about his time here.
"Your ad was money wasted!!!"

That seemed like butthurt, apologies if I misread the tone. But I agree with your followup. Its good to move on as he did. I do appreciate he took the time to say a heartfelt goodbye though. Im ready to move forward as you are.
