Ace Frehley of Kiss has passed away

This is Aces best guitar solo in their live album. Helped get me through my freshman year in the dorms. Also my attempt to turn an AM station I worked as a DJ on Sunday afternoons into a classic rock station began with this song. Didn’t go over well with the station manager.

Kiss played in Ames during their 1997 reunion tour. I think that might have been their first performance at Hilton. That night was the beginning of the end for Veishea, with the murder at Adelante house. My siblings and I went to the concert and my brother-in-law drove around Ames that night and told us about a commotion in Campustown. The murder happened just after the concert ended.

On October 4, 1979, KISS performed at Vets. Same day the pope was at Living History Farms. I remember driving to the concert on 235 and you could have rolled a bowling ball down the middle of the freeway going east and not hit a car for miles. People were either at Urbandale or heading to Vets. John Cougar was the opener. That was the year he had “I Need a Lover.” The 1979 Kiss concert was part of their Dynasty tour.

Plenty of stage accidents for Space Ace. In addition to his “shock me” experience, Ace also a smoke bomb go off early in his guitar. In addition, his elevator shoes caused him to fall down on stage a lot and wrecked his knee.

Ace and Pete sing verse two of Rock and Roll All Night, with Ace on what I call an acoustic guitar.

I remember reading basics of the "shock" incident back in that era, but hadn't recalled the details.

Don't know if I was aware of his platform-shoes difficulty.

I have to imagine it was a challenge to be mobile on stage (or anywhere!) with those things.

Ace was supposed to perform at Brat Fest here in Madison this summer but backed out last minute due to illness. Was hoping to see him because my 6 year old is all about KISS thanks to me and my father-in-law's taste in music haha.

Lost a legend!

Your 6 year old is already married and has a father-in-law?
