The Cyclones are 4-0 and fresh off of a bye as they welcome undefeated Arizona into Jack Trice Stadium for a white out under the lights. Our staff weights in with their predictions for the Big 12 home opener.

Arkansas State again??

Either ISU loses or ISU covers, no in between this week. Ariz media a little chalky so gun to my head ISU to cover.

This is a weird one. I’ve been a long time Arizona fan after living in Tucson in the 80’s. I’ve watched their games this year and my conclusions are that I haven’t seen much. Two inferior teams to start and a plummeting KSU that’s about as dysfunctional as any team I’ve seen.

Then there is ISU. After the last game, I wondered if they were just a bit burnt out or were we simply overrated And not as good as the hype machine said? I think it’s a bit of both.

So, we have two teams that are a bit overhyped meeting in Ames. If the real (I’m hoping the one that played so well in game 2) ISU decides to step up I think ISU wins by 17. If they don’t…this one could be a nail biter and potential season crusher.

I think the Clones play their best game of the year and roll in a rocking white out.

I agree. Under the lights? Sold out crowd? Not a single supposed ISU contributor believes we just blast them off the field? Has no one attended an ISU Saturday night game? Gonna be crazy.

ISU 34
Ariz 16

I agree. They are a bunch of weenies! The outliers are @JakeBrend (win by 10) and @JacksonLPence (win by 6). Give me the Clones by 24.

If this is going to be a great season, we need to elevate here and set the tone for two road games.

I think our "Bet $10 / Win $30" game options will be:

ISU wins by 1 to 6
ISU wins by 7 to 13
ISU wins by 14 to 20
ISU wins by 21+

In a game that odds makers say we should win by less than a touchdown, losing our 1st and 2nd string kickers could be a huge deal. Hopefully, we'll play so we'll it won't have any impact on the outcome.

This game feels weird to me. I think we might drop this one, due to the weirdness of their defense and our unfamiliarity with it. Not gonna predict a score or anything, just seems like a weird opponent that nobody thought was gonna be any good entering the season but turns out might be pretty good. I'm prepared for the worst, and hope to be wrong.

The metrics say both teams are mid-tier Big 12 pretenders not contenders. The homer in me says ISU went through a brutal stretch of travel and hype to start the season. International game, two rivalry games, a 95-degree scorcher against an inferior opponent, and after an extra week to get healthy will break out and throttle Arizona. The realist in me has zero expectations and hopes we can manage to score just one more point than the Wildcats.

Midwest Storm 21, Desert Storm 20.

Which is more fierce? Well, after a Cyclone strikes, you have to rebuild your home. After a desert storm strikes, you have to wash you car.

Ouch. I just hurt my shoulder, patting myself on the back for my prediction of a 24 point win.
