Anyone listening to Supertramp today? (RIP Rick Davies)

I didn’t care for their pop rock sound back then, but I have grown to appreciate them in the last few years. Keyboards have their place.

Coming from Chicago, I recall waking up pre-dawn in my refurbished 240Z with my custom built boom speakers, and just cranking Supertramp all the way to Ames in order to stay awake and make my first class. Or, during the summer breaking those speakers out of the car during our Iowa State summer soccer tournaments and blasting away. Those times are priceless.

Supertramp isn't a heavy-rotation group for me, mostly a singles-type band, but I like quite a few tracks.

Hodgson's writing/vocals are higher %, but Davies has "Goodbye Stranger," one of my favorites from its late-'70s/early '80s period.

You make an interesting point. A lot of bands that went heavy on keyboards didn't age well. Supertramp was a keyboard band, but it didn't really date their sound. No cheesey-sounding synths, but more piano and bell sounds. The Hammond organ is obviously an old instrument, but its sound is pretty timeless.
