Iowa State Women’s Basketball releases 2025-26 non-conference schedule

Little surprised by the return to Fort Meyers for Thanksgiving. We might go again as we have family in nearby Naples. A couple of name opponents will shore up an otherwise light non-con schedule.

What is everyone’s expectations for the non conference schedule? Based on preseason rankings, Iowa is our only ranked opponent and it appears we should be favored in every game. This non conference schedule is much easier than last year. It seems possible that we could go 12-0, but I could also see us drop a couple of games. What is everyone expecting?

Iowa is very talented, but has glaring weaknesses. Still wouldn’t surprise me if that was a loss. Drake will be a challenge on their court. Indiana and/or Gonzaga will be good matchups. Marquette will also be a good squad. If our team gels and we get solid performances from Williams and Hare we will be a tough out against anyone. The BIG bonus for ISU is if AJ becomes a consistent scorer and one of the sophs steps up. Add in Beatty and Paulk…this team has the potential to be nasty good.

Our schedule is much easier than last year. We are ranked 14th in the country, but I feel most fans are taking a wait and see attitude given the struggles of last year. On paper we should go 12-0 in the non conference, but I’m not sure anyone would bet the house on that.

I am one of those fans. I predicted a 10-2 noncon especially if we draw Indiana at the tournament, but I believe my prediction is just as likely as going 11-1 or 12-0

Indiana is a good program, but we should beat them this year if we play to our talent level. They only return one starter and are predicted to finish in the bottom half of the Big 10. I’m actually more worried about Drake and UNI. Bill’s teams seem to struggle with both.

The “if” is a biggie. UNI I’m not worried about since it’s at home. Drake in Des Moines is always a bear. Even our best teams struggled there.
