***2025 Week 1 (Aug 28-Sept. 1) CFB Games Thread***

Big 12 has literally one and only one way to stay even slightly relevan, even at a miniscule level - and it's winning, and keep winning. The fact that we still have fans that think it matters - at all - in any way - that we used to suck in football in the 80's and 90's - is truly bizarre.

Big 12 winning games is critically important for the future of Iowa State athletics. It is the only weapon in the arsenal, and even then it's like bringing a sword to a gun fight.

No, it isn't. The only thing important to ISU is ISU - the conference is meaningless, dead weight even.

******** aside, the most simplistic way for ISU to rise above its current peers and hopefully move on from them is to stand out. The fanbase is there, coaches, talent, financial backing, winning, etc. - ISU is doing its part and doing it well, having the schools around it fail to come even close (Cincy selling a home game and then losing last night as an example) only magnifies that.

I personally enjoy the current iteration of the B12, it's essentially the island of misfit toys and sets up a competent program like ISU to stack up a lot of wins. At the same time, it's a bit of a trap, ISU has to view this opportunity as nothing more than a stepping stone to eventually get away from it.

If you’re going to be fine with ever only getting 1 CFP qualifier, that’s a fine feeling to have. But ideally, we’ll eventually get to the point of having consistent multiple qualifiers. Making the CFP as an at large selection isn’t a single year process. And it won’t be possible without a strong Big12.

2011 ISU played @Uconn before the Big East exploded, otherwise 2002 v. Florida State. I was curious so I peeked at Iowa, looks like 2015 v. Pitt and 2011 v. Pitt*.

Lots of MAC and MWC teams over the years.

*(when they were a part of the Big East)
Iowa pretty much played two P5 schools every year OOC until the Big 10 went to a 9 game schedule.

I incorrectly read my original source:
2016 -- 9-game B1G schedule begins
2015 -- v. Pitt
2014 -- @ Pitt
2011 -- v. Pitt
2010 -- @ Arizona
2009 -- v. Arizona
2008 @ Pitt

I'm just not sure if ISU fans should be saying much about other teams' slow starts.

One game doesn't tell the story.
While it’s a message board kind of what we do here. Not much fun if we can’t post anything until end of season results are in

I'm not saying wait for the season to end but saying 'X team is bad' based off of one game is odd since the season can change.

it really benefits the big 12 if colorado and coach prime can pop in boulder without shedeur and hunter. tonight is the first look at that. i am a fan of that show.

Not sure how long it will last but it's raining in Boulder at the moment.

Do we trust Prime or Dave Aranda more to deliver for the conference?

one of these dudes is a legend and the other is dave aranda.

The real kicker is that in the next 5 years the Big 12 and ACC are gonna get road blocked from playing a B1G or SEC team.
Yup. ESPN has their super league already, they just aren't going to call it that. Just watch how they cover the sport. Next chess move is telling the P2 they have to play more games against each other for the matchups, then at renegotiation time tell the rest of us they won't pay because we don't have good games.

Can't wait for the first time 4 loss Big Ten teams that don't make their championship game bump a 2 loss Big 12 championship game loser for a spot in the CFP. I feel like it will be soon.
