ISU vs. K State Game Thoughts

Only an idiot would have tried to score there. A Cyclone TD is practically the only way they could have lost the game.
Or a Cyclone fumble returned for a TD by the K-State defense.

Either way, "Victory Formation" is named "Victory Formation" for a reason.

It's easy to say our OL "blocked better" in the second half, and while there is probably some truth to that, I think the combo of making adjustments at halftime and leaning more on Hansen played a huge part. He just seems to follow blocks and attack the hole so much better than Sama does.
I agree Hansen is better, but not that much. Dama had 2 big 2nd half carries before Hanson came in.

Hansen started the game with 12 yards on 6 carries. Sama ended the game with 23 yards on 4 carries. I think it was mostly Online and scheme improvement.

This love hate thing with Sama is wild. Kansas was great yesterday at stretching out line of scrimmage.

I don’t think the fumble from the pitch his fault, zero IMO.

I can visualize nearly identical stats from these two at seasons end.

Your observation on Hansen/Sama isn't completely accurate. The run blocking turned with Sama at RB. We then inserted Hansen and got to our bread and butter. A lot of people are forgetting the drive on Eskildsen's TD was basically Rocco/Abu until that pass. We chipped away, then Sama got a 7 yarder. An 8 yarder. Then boom, TD over the top.
Sama averaged 3 yards per carry. He's always trailing Hanson by 1.5 to 2 yards per carry at least.

I am totally thrilled we won, it gives us a huge momentum boost for rest of non conf, and it keeps the playoff dream alive. So don't get me wrong I'm very happy.

I am just not convinced that Sama is Big 12 good. He tries to bounce every single run outside and on so many its 0 to 2 yards and he gets stuffed. He certainly doesn't break tackles. Look at the games last year where Carson Hanson got lion's share of carries and Sama got lion's share of carries - you will see a common thread that the offense moves wayyyy better through Hanson. When Hanson needs a breather I would like to see Dylan Lee or someone else. If Dylan Lee has to sit behind Sama all year he will just transfer.

Just rewatching the game. Comments about Sama's approach to the line are really spot on. He seems to start dancing a yard deep and all momentum is lost. Saw the same thing last year. He's big enough he ought to be able to pound the ball forward like Hansen does. Has to change something because unless there is a gapping hole to go through he's defeated before he actually gets to the line.

5.0 to 4.7 last year. Sama with 27 fewer carries.

Each are different backs, both are effective.

Get off this misinformed narrative.

Game seemed to be “sh*t on” by most national voices I saw.

Thought for a week 1, wet field conditions was a solid game.

Then again since big 12 doesn’t play defense this was just “incompetent football”

Excited to see adjustments and growth in weeks 2 and 3 and thankful they get to do so with a 1-0 conf record.

gotta pick on somebody every season and then pile on with your opinion to look good. that is my opinion

In rewatching the game, I didn’t see Sama’s old habits of him dancing and bouncing runs. K State’s front seven won the line of scrimmage in the first half and both backs struggled. Both backs found success in the second half. Hansen is probably a better back, but the difference isnt huge. Sama has improved a lot from the first half of last year.

Do I want to score another TD at the end to stick it to the cats? Absolutely. Have I watched ISU football to know that something terrible could happen if we try? You bet. Take the knee!

I've watched games where the offense fumbles on the goal line and the defense runs it back 99 yards for a TD. Or go ahead and score. Kick the PAT and you're up 2 scores. Right? The defense blocks the PAT and runs it back for 2 pts. Now you have to kick off and they have two minutes to tie the game.

They both need to be used IMO. Both are good backs with different strengths. Wouldn't even mind seeing a third back. Like a third down type back maybe.

Certain things dial up the ISU PTSD for me. Goal to go, extra point to tie or win, long fg to tie or win.

Rewatch the game again

Do the Irish just drink Guinness from a bottle? Every beer tastes better in a glass to me.
I think he was commenting on the beer being served in plastic cups. From what I understand, during rugby matches, they serve it in glasses, but you're not allowed to bring it into the stands. He may not have known that the rules were different for the ISU/KSU game.
