Has anyone been and golfed Ireland? If so, I’m wondering out if these courses, which might be the best one:

- Old Head (this is the only one I’ve heard of before, and it looks awesome)
- Waterville
- Dooks
- Ballybunion
- The Island
I’m playing Ballybunion the week after the game

I didn't golf at Waterville, but was on an ISU Alumni trip in Ireland & we dined at the restaurant. Beautiful view & the golf course looked amazing!!

Was talking to a friend today who’d been to Dublin. She said it was wonderful, but they had to be careful of pickpockets.

Take that as you will.

*I pointed out that Ames’ Dublin Bay has never had any problem with pickpockets.

I’m curious what is typical amount for a caddy in Ireland Might be.

On cash, most everywhere in Dublin has tap to pay with your chip card. Good to carry cash in an emergency, but don’t get burned by crazy exchange fees at like the airport. It’s easier to just withdraw Euros at ATMs in Ireland. Your US based bank may have some small fees, but you’ll likely come out ahead of an exchange service.

Most of the local banks that do currency exchange use CXI. They do not have the normal exchange rate that you can find online. I got 500 Euros for $614.70. Thats 1 Euro = $1.2294. Veridian also charged me a $14 transaction fee. It would have been $14 no matter how much I ordered. It did take a couple days to come in.

Check to see if your bank does no foreign transaction fees for ATM withdrawals.

I get reimbursed all ATM fees and no foreign transactions and I get the spot exchange pricing.

In general just make sure you DO NOT accept the ATMs exchange rate, it’s almost always a terrible rate.

This Austrian bank called Raiffeisen always have insane ATM fees and truly the worst exchange rates and extremely weird ATM screens that have double negatives to try to charge you more. Not sure if they're in Ireland but I see them in many airports. Avoid them at all costs

Played Old Head, Ballybunion, Waterville, Tralee and Lahinch in June. All were fabulous but Old Head was on a different level. All walking, no buggies. Caddies are about $125 per round and cheaper if caddy carries 2 bags. Forecaddies were our preferred choice. Saved us a lot of balls. You hire one for your group and was about $200 divided by 4.

I looked into playing Old Head when we were over in May. It'll run you close to 500euro and it's likely booked. I checked in January for May and they had all of 2 tee times available for the 3 days we were in Kinsale.

Exchange rate is 1.165 500 EURO would equal $582
Correct. But the US Banks charge a % on top of it. And then they'll get you again when you try to return any unused. Capitalism at it's finest. And in the case of WF, it's still a better deal than the exchanges located in the airports.
