2025-26 Lineup

Look at how many of these 6th year guys have been healthy for NCAA. More not than have.

Schulyer, Feldkamp for us. Parco, Teemer, DeAugustino, Cannon. Just off the top of my head. I also think some of them struggle with getting upset early in the tournament & dealing with the grind of the backside of the bracket

I worry about that too. Half our lineup will be 5th/6th/7th year guys. Injuries, wear & tear, complacency or just getting tired of the grind happens a lot. Hoping we can avoid all that. With that said, I trust the staff to manage it all.

Osmany does have eligibility. Reineri is the Cuban that we are still waiting to hear on
Yes...my bad. But with that...what happens if Reineri is eligible? Great problem but we will potentially have an All American somewhere that can't make the lineup?

Off topic: but when do we expect the schedule dates to come out? I'm in wisconsin now and really want to plan for a couple trips back to hilton to watch this year.

I wish we had a home and home with wisky
Agreed! IMO make a turn around the state grabbing all our bordering states until your done and then start over again…Nebraska, Minny, Wisconsin, Illinois…We don’t have to compete nationally for recruits like in football (meaning southern states and their campuses/facilities) but we need to stick out when a recruit is coming to the Midwest…showcasing Hilton and our fan base to a Wisconsin/Illinois and it’s a slam dunk win

Disagree.

Deepest state with talent BY FAR - PA

We've had some outstanding Iowans (Gable, Gibbons, Voelker, etc) but those teams would've been nothing without the talent from the aforementioned states.

I say look at it like Spaniards and golf and go get the right guys WHEREVER they are... including Cuba, Russia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iran.

I mean look at the last few years and where our recruits came from. I'd say our big areas for recruiting are CA and Arizona right now. Would love to get more in Ohio and PA.

Euton - Ohio
Bartelt - Florida
Castillo - AZ
Gaitan - CA
Herrera - CA
Frost Twins - Lousiana
Paniro - PA
Meza - AZ
Perryman - CA
Swiz - MI

Technically the frost boys were committed to Columbia while at Dowling when they switched to the Cyclones. So we recruited them while they were Iowans, but your point remains. Some really great wrestlers in Iowa and border states we just haven’t hit on. Below are the wrestlers currently ranked in the top 12 by Flo who are either from Iowa, or a state that boarders Iowa.

125- Vincent Robinson, Trevor Anderson, Jore Volk, Nicolar Rivera
133- Drake Ayala, Zan Fugitt, Dylan Ragusin, Evan Frost
141- Jacob Frost, Sergio Lemley, Nasir Bailey
149- Kannon Webster, Gavin Drexler, Ethan Stiles
157- Antrell Tayler, Vincent Zerban, Matt Bianchi, Ethen Miller, Ryder Downey
165- Mitchell Mesenbrink, Michael Caliendo, Hunter Garvin, Braeden Scoles, Nick Hamilton, Maxx Mayfield
174- Patrick Kennedy, Cameron Steed, Joshua Ogunsanya
184- Max McEnelly, Bennett Berge, Aeoden Sinclair
197- Rocky Elam, Joey Novak, Wyatt Voelker, Zach Glazier
285- Isaac Trumble, Ben Kueter, Luke Luffman, Cole Mirasola

You'd also be surprised how many more you’d get in the top 12 if you added in just Indiana, Michigan, Colorado, and Oklahoma. You don’t have to go far to get high caliber wrestlers

May be missing my point...Your list of wrestlers proves we are going where we need to go to get recruits, not questioning that. But are we very high on many top Midwest prep's list? As others have mentioned in the thread and I would concur, we are not. Big 10 is the premier wrestling conference, we are surrounded by the Big 10, why not showcase our facilities and our fanbase and grab "low-hanging fruit" IMO and use that on the recruiting trail that we can stack up against the best and schedule as such. Goes without saying Hilton will have better attendance against a bordering Big 10 school than Nebraska Kearney.

A little bit of the point. Everyone knows how good Pennsylvania, NJ, Ohio and California are at producing top talent. And they are deep with talent. So it should be surprising to some to see that many of the top 12 guys come from just Iowa and the state bordering Iowa. That’s only 7 states but about 1/3 of the top 12

*edit to add Ohio

Just go get the best guys that are the best fit for KD and Iowa State wherever they are.

I do get your point on scheduling more duals with our B1G neighbors, but that has less to with where the wrestlers are from.

I think wrestling top notch schools out of conference is a bit of a dream. Same concept with football and basketball. Tough to get power schools to compete with each other unless it’s forced upon them. Some of us middle-aged fokes remember in the 80s the goal was absolutely to do home-and-homes with top 10 opponents. I just don’t feel like that’s in the cards anymore. Sorry to be pessimistic.

I see why Bastida isn’t ranked #1 to start the year but if the man is healthy all year I don’t see a way he doesn’t end up #1.

Having a finalist or two wrestling Saturday night will be great. Looking at that lineup I can’t name a guy that couldn’t AA with the right path at nationals if we say winner of Euton/Riggins 165 and Riggins/Zerban 157. Realistically the AA over/under would probably be 5.5 and finalists in sitting at 0.5
